Hi! I'm Julie. Just considering buying a starter kit. Trying to find info online is staggering. One place says one thing, another place says something else.

I have no idea what I'm doing. Anyone have any advice?

It would depend on different things...

What did you smoke?
How much did you smoke?
Are you looking for a starter kit to cut down real cigarettes?
Are you looking at a kit to vape only without a real cigarette?

If you are looking for something that looks and feels similar to a cigarette then I recommend the Halocigs G6 with the automatic batteries. Screw on a cartomizer and draw on it. No buttons to push, fits in your pocket easily, always handy.

I needed something that looked like and felt like a cigarette when I started vaping to get off cigarettes. The idea of always having to press a button didn't appeal to me one bit.

I have since progressed but still use the Halo G6 system everyday. I carry 2 of them with me always.

Getting a device that looks and has more of a cig like feel like suggested by Shootist can help, but there are some cons with it, if you are a heavy smoker the batteries don't last long, and if you can't drop juice in the cartridge, some are bad from the beginning. But, it works for some people, me personally it made me want a real cigarette more and the short battery life got me on real cigs quick, I found forcing my self to start using a 510 variable voltage pen helped me the most. It was awkward and didn't feel like a holding or smoking a cigarette
and after awhile I got use to it and it felt natural and that's what helped me get off cigs.

Hi! Julie. Remember one thing that the cigarette will destroy your body and beauty. So you will find a way out.
My suggestion is that you can choose just one started kit which don't cost too much and start your ex-smoked trip. After a while of vaping, you will find what you like.
At first you will have a struggle time, but it will pass .

I started out with an kit from a site here in nz, came with two ego battery's and two iclear16 clearomisers, + free juice at 18mg.
At the time I was still smoking, although the vaping helped me cut back to a few cigs a day.
I very nearly dismissed vaping completely due to the average performance, however I decided to get some better gear and keep at it.
One month of using the ego+ I clear and abit of research online, and I went ahead and bought a I taste SVD regulated mod, a gp paps mech mod and an IgoW dripper. A kayfun and a foggerv4 as well.

The dripper brought the taste of my juice to life, and I was a convert. No more cigs for me!
Even though the juice was pretty low grade, it was vastly improved over the taste of the iclear16s. I've since gone on to diy mix my own juices. Mostly coz diy is in my DNA, but also because I have no decent vape shops in my country and I am frugal and want to save $ on overseas shipping.

I realise this is probably not the best advise for the average person, but I thought Id share my story anyway.

Tldr: Dont get a iclear16, get a mechanical mod and a dripping atomiser!

For a new vaper i would recommend ego twist/vision spinner 650mah/900mah or 1300mah with kanger aerotank mini, some spare heads and delicious juice. Small, powerful and cheap ecig. Dont forget about the second battery for backup and for the time when the 1st battery is charging!

As someone mentioned, Halo is a great starter set up. G6 is more of a cig alike and the Triton kit gives you more battery life. Reliable gear, great customer service and good juices for both regular and menthol smokers. I started with Halo, I still have 8 batteries from them and all 8 are still working a year later. They have a forum here on ECF if you have any questions.

What ever you choose, just remember to try and get two batteries so if one needs charging, you have a back up. There's a ton of people here to help you so don't get nervous or feel like you can't ask anything. No question is a stupid question. We all were noobs too at one point.

Hello and welcome to ecf.
What exactly are you wanting out of your vape experience?
Are you wanting to stick with the it must look like a cig or are you ready to step away from that and really get into vaping?
Vaping is all about personal preference and what you are comfortable with and what works best for you to quit smoking.
Please feel free to check out the link in my sig for some starter info and starter "kits" for cheap.
Sorry on my phone else I'd quote some info.
Feel free to ask questions and let us know more about you so we can help point you into the right direction.
No question is stupid/silly just mis/under informed :)

Congrats on taking the first steps to being smoke free.

I've tried the ones that look like an actual cigarette and didn't care for them. I'm looking to start actually vaping and try out some flavors, as well.
for new vapors typically a variable voltage spinner is recommended as they are tried and true have stood the test of time....
however, I would like to recommend just a bit of a step up and go with a MVP v2, if you don't mind the box look :)
It's all the best of a regulated mod but the easy use of a vv spinner...
the "mod" itself is about the size of a pack of smokes but when you attach a tank to it it's as tall as a #2 pencil...I need to update my image but here's some to give you some ideas...
Size Does Matter
For those out there with the "size problem"
Here is something to give a good judgement

.............
the mvp on the left (with an eternity dripper and long drip tip on top) the TECs on the right (same dripper on top) seen in the other image above

it can check the oHm of your tank's atty, set volts or watts to your preferred taste (different tanks and juices require different volts/watts to get the best flavor), tell you how many puffs you've taken since last turned off , tell you when it needs charged unlike a vv spinner that just dies the mvp v2 button lights green when charged, yellow when needs charged and red when dead, it's a passthru battery so if you want to, you can vape while it's charging, is ego and 510 threaded and can easily be stickered to make it designed the way you like it ;) to personalize your vape gear

New Vapor Info & Starter Kits
Vaping is such a personal experience, so obviously everyone's perfect kit will be different and we will need more info about you and your needs. This post is more aimed to those that are ready to move away from cig-a-likes and into the vaping world.

I have gone through the past year of lurking in this forum and what I have learned and tried to piece together to my best a good starter kit for cheap.

Are you ready to step away from the cigarette-look-a-likes? If so this opens your choices up a lot...if you aren't then there are still options.

Next: if only using cig-a-likes are you only wanting to buy pre-filled or are you willing to refill your cartomizers?
part b: if willing to get away from cig-a-likes same question
part c: if willing to get away from cig-a-likes there are different types of juice delivery systems available :)

It is all overwhelming at first but it starts getting easier and it starts making more sense.

....................

I'm still new myself but best advice I can give is: keep in mind vaping is all personal preference and there is no bad choices...what you decide is what you will be living with and using ;)
feel free to ask question, no question is stupid, just mis/under informed.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • Try to stick to pv's (personal vapors) that have both the 510 and ego connections this way you have all kinds of options when it comes to juice delivery systems.
  • Variable Voltage (vv) = everyone's taste is different so you can set your voltage up or down to help suit your needs as well as different juices and different juice delivery systems (cartomizers, tanks, ect) taste different at different voltages. (how many times can I say different)
  • Variable Wattage (vw) I haven't tried yet but assuming it is the same principle as stated above for vv.
  • Pass-through battery to be able to vape while charging.
  • the higher the mAh the longer the battery life
  • do you prefer a warm vape (top coil) or a cool vape (bottom coil)? top coil vs bottom coil tanks, to each their own...but go with glass or metal so that there's no worries about tank cracking juices.
