goodbye
This may be controversial, but I do not believe that life is so precious that freedom of choice should be restricted. Suicide whether immediate or through destructive life choices is at the discretion of the the individual. I do not subscribe to the moral imperative of helping those who refuse help.

Who's promoting restricting peoples choices? Not me. Just because someone wants to help others, doesn't mean they are trying to take away people's freedoms. (talking about individuals who have the personality or nature in them to help others, NOT governments or politicians). I am all about expanding peoples choices and rights....Including those individuals that enjoy helping others.;) And, from what I see in the OP is no one trying to help those who don't want it, but someone willing to help those that do. You on the other hand, seem to be someone who would like to restrict the rights of people who enjoys helping others.

Holy crap!! What was the topic again?

So when someone asks a never smoked person how to quit it's like asking how to build a watch.

I have quit smoking a number of times. I still smoke. One day I'll stop but I can tell you the things that caused me to return to smoking that vaping won't help because it aint like going from drug use with a needle to swallowing a pill and all is right with the world.

First off have them analyze why they smoke each and every cigarette. Perhaps even keep a journal. That alone may reduce their consumption. Analizing before lighting up, not after.

Triggers and habits can vary person to person. Example stress in traffic or after a meal can be triggers. With coffee or when a certain taste develops in the mouth can be habits. vaping can help with some triggers like stress. Holding a pencil can help with the habit. Eating a dumdum lollipop can thwart that certain flavor.

For me, caffiene and nicotine go hand in hand, especially coffee which triggers a habit. I switched to decaf and my urges wained dramatically. Switching to morning unsweetened ice tea helped further. Later I opted for a few grains Stevia in my tea. Helped even more.

One thing that drives me crazy in hotels is sitting on the toilet without smoking. 40+ years of having a cig with my morning constitutional. I stealth vape in hotels.

The device also aids or doesn't. Not nicotine delivery but what habits does it allow the brain to adjust to. Holding a 200 watt box between the pointer and middle finger for example isn't quite the same as that soft paper wrapped tobacco. Same with the mouthpiece. Does it feel natural? How convenient it is to carry also plays an important role. Especially in the beginning, which is why e-cigs and Juuls are so popular.

Does the aroma of burning tobacco cause the smoker to want one? It's not unlike when someone yawns and you do. They should avoid hanging around the smoking areas at work then. Vape away from smokers.

Alcohol is also a trigger. Along with caffiene they intensify the urge to smoke. The main two reasons I returned to smoking.

One should not start out with maximum nicotine items. Especially if they are a light smoker or take light drags. 12 strength nicotine is a good starting point and they can go up from there. Max nicotine vapers can increase the urge to smoke at the beginning. Conventional wisdom dictates the opposite, but in some people Nyquil makes them excited instead of drowsy.

One thing I did was figure out my triggers and habits, then change or adapt. Now instead of huffing cigarettes all day I enjoy a few and vape the rest of the time.

When I started searching for habits I discovered I put on my left shoe before right and it drove me nuts trying to reverse that. I discovered I light a cigarette before brushing my teeth everyday. Every time. I discovered grape e-juice makes me want a cigarette. Sour apple does not. When my vape device tank leaked and I got juice in my mouth I'd say phooey on this thing and smoke.

Each person differs but they all have one thing in common. Stopping smoking cigarettes can be about as difficult as going from being a cardinal to a blue jay if they don't understand why they smoke. Not some simplistic "because I'm addicted", which over generalizes. Instead "why did I light up the first one today?" or "why that one at 11:22am, when there was no particular reason to smoke?"

I started smoking 41 years ago because all my buddies smoked. I like 3 each day. I always liked those 3 the entire 41 years. First one each day, one while sitting on the stool, and the last one for the day. The others in between are either by habit or just subconscious impulses.

If I am reading this thread right....

The best thing you can do is help new customers figure out whether they want a small, high nicotine setup, or something cloudy or a pod and AIO. If your store allows testing e-liquids you should give your customer lots of different flavors to try, even if they come in saying "I know I want tobacco."

Also, you are going to want an understanding of how much and how long they smoked, to figure out the strength that should go into their e-liquid (and I am a fan of staring out with smaller bottles of different strength liquid.) Also, the strength is going to vary A LOT depending on what kind of setup they chose.

Don's sell customers smok products, and don't sell customers rewrapped batteries. If that is all you have in the store, give them links to this site or Mooch's site so they can buy a safe battery.

That's about all you can do. It is not your JOB to get someone to quit smoking it is your JOB to send smokers out with the vaping equipment and flavors that give them the BEST chance at success.

My B&M store did not get me stopped but I still love it a bit because they did help me and take care of me when I was dual using, and didn't know much about ecigs.

It took me about 9 years from my first vape, to now, which is stopped (more or less, I fell off the wagon a few times. No vape shop person could make that happen, but ECF was invaluable to me. You could point interested folks to the forum, that's never a bad thing.

I actually agree with the trying a few setups 0 nic, to get a sense of what vaping and the different types are like. Not to mention flavors.

Best of luck

Anna
