1 piece of wire. Twist until it makes a tube looking fold. Then separate into 3 equal lengths. Twist in opposite direction until it looks like the photo's you've seen.

Edit: sorry for the real technical terminology  hopefully it's clear enough. I made the same mistake the first time. Simply start with 1 length of wire, once properly twisted, split into 3.

Does it really matter? One long piece twisted and then chopped into 3 equal pieces or 3 shorter wires each twisted as individuals? As long as you are twisting them the same direction I don't see how it matters except maybe it's easier to just do the initial twisting as one long process rather than three shorter processes and having to setup the cordless drill three times rather than once.

No, guess it doesn't. Just be sure to reverse twist the 3 when twisting them together.

I sent you some more. only about 3/4 of what I sent the last time. your second atty package seemed a hair light, and there was the Mundy's . . . . . waiting for a job in life.

OHHH OHHH I've always wanted a hairlight!

Now that you agree with me I'm going to do it your way. :p

cuz it makes more since... and I'm all about since.
Lol. I thought you meant more than one strand when initially twisting. That's what I tried my first time. It failed miserably. Then realized it was one strand to begin with and made life markedly easier.

this is good. the opinion of a man who's never done it.

three strands is way easier. You'll soon discover that the shorter the length you work with, the easier it is to control and to succeed (and the less frequently it snaps in half and falls on the floor . . . . leaving you wondering why you didn't just make 3 separate shorter lengths).

I find that starting with single strands no more than 2' long is most reasonable and most likely a successful venture.

Just be sure the ends that are clamped in the drill stay together. If one or two get turned around you're hella screwed. :D

It's also very helpful to use the same weight vice grips when doing the first twist that Mundy uses in his video. (~6oz) Otherwise you get the wire snapping in the middle pdib was talking about. :)

The hand drill for the last reverse twist is not a bad idea either. It will give you way more control. The last reverse twist is where I had the most problems when I was learning.

Also, I did a lot of different coils on the Nuppin and Mundy's gave me the best results by far. And since the Nuppin squonks so good it makes Mundy's an even better candidate. Awesome combo, top notch flavor! :)

Sent while slacking out and about.

And if only the weather were better. I'm at our cabin in the middle of 100 acres of woods up at 3000' in SW VA at the moment. I don't really hunt, but I might take a target of opportunity if it walked up me by accident. Turkeys do sometimes walk right up the driveway, but I haven't gotten one yet. Now the colleague I'm here with, he ostensibly hunts. He spends time in tree stands freezing his cojones. I'll come out and help him drag the deer out of the woods if he gets one. :D

My take on it is that a very light torching will do the trick. I make the basic coil and then slip it off the mandrel and just pass it over a torch tip set very low. It heats fast cause it's comprised of very thin wirelets. I can even hold the legs with my fingers, it's such a quick torching . . . . I'll tell you what . .. . seeeeee . . . . wazzuuuuup.
When I took mine off the mandrel the diameter opened up (became bigger) and the coils separated. I had to hold both leads tight while still on the mandrel to keep the ID and coils together, while I torched it. Not sure why mine was springier than yours.
