Well... it is a very sad day. I will try not to cry. My desk is too tall, I'm too clumsy, and tile floors are no bueno.
I'm just glad I did it myself. I would hate to lose a friendship or marriage.

So... what have we determined is the best way of fixing this? I seem to remember someone using superglue.

set screw? . .. . (survey)

I have some techniques and such for super-gluing it together with best results. Of course, if you want, I can do it for you.

1: find a very flat surface and lay down a wide strip of blue tape or other such non-sticking stuff. This will be the surface upon which you will push the parts ↓down while pressing them →together← with glue. The closer your bottom is to true flat, the better things will work with bottom contact and all that.

2: I recommend using Loctite Professional Superglue (I get it at Lowe's). I've found it to be the strongest/fastest, over the years.

3: practice. Place your dry parts down on your flat (non-stick) work surface and bring them together rapidly. You should have this motion down pat before applying glue.

4: apply glue to one of the mating surfaces, bring together the parts gently for a 3-count*, then increase pressure (press hard) for a ten count, then press really hard for 10. Now, shift/rotate your piece a little (while maintaining full clamping pressure and downward pressure). A quick/firm jerk/twist to break the bond forming between the glue and the blue-tape. If it doesn't move, don't sweat it. You can peel the whole business off (tape+mod together) and start peeling away the tape and then filing off the remaining, truly attached bits. In either eventuality, continue firm clamping pressure for a total of 50 count (all steps/counting included).

5: File off any excess glue (&/or tape) with a mind to re-establishing a flat and true bottom on the mod.

*this allows the glue to fill/distribute the joint and whet the dry side of the mating parts.

Yeah I was using the set screw. It just hit hard. Choice words were used.

Ok... Gtg get some good superglue. That doesn't sound too bad. And the surfaces mate back together very nicely. I'm just a bit concerned about too much glue and getting it on the finish.

Well it depends how much super glue you apply on it. I recommend you just apply very lightly because you really don't need much at all. If a bead builds up it will overflow on the finish so just get one surface wet without any buildup of glue. The thin CA is actually absorbed quite easily by the wood

That's pretty lousy luck right there onjre but it should glue up just fine.

BTW that won't happen with the li'l pinch as it's got plenty more meat down under and it's solid
I had that same thought about the new design

Someone needs to whack Dan Knight upside the head. He clicked LIKE on a post with a picture of an injured dibi-sumpin.

I'm sorry. I only did it because I knew it wasn't fatal. That's my story and I'm stickin' with it.
