Look, I don't wish to appear rude but you really can't have done much research into the electronic cigarette.

Your comparison with the nicotine inhaler is quite incorrect - they are completely different products with completely different methods of nicotine delivery. Additionally the inhalator has undergone rigorous clinical testing and received medicines licenses.

I think this is not being recognized as a grey area, this is not black and white. Tony's comparison to prescription inhalers has some validity, but not completely as you stated.
The e-cig still delivers visual stimulus (vapor) as well as physical stimulus (the feeling of smoke in the throat and lungs) that the inhaler does not. When on a path to quit smoking (or any habit for that matter) you have to remove the stimuli preferably slowly and progressively. The inhaler robs you of these physical characteristics and only delivers gradually reducing amounts of nicotine. With an e-cig, you can gradually reduce the nicotine delivery to zero, and still be hooked on the physical and mechanical effects of its use. Based on my own habits, I am more addicted to my smoking ritual than I am the nicotine.
I really don't think the issue being discussed is much of a big deal to us, the users. We know if we want to quit or not and if we want it bad enough, we can quit, e-cig or not.
The more important factor here is the threat of regulation based on unsubstantiated claims. We need to tread very carefully and not equip our enemy (the goober-mint) with the ammunition it needs to ban or regulate our beloved products.
The marketing approach that appeals to me most is the "Liberation" angle. I'm not promoting any supplier here, but take that for what it is. This almost goes without saying in this forum, but far and above what hit's home with all smokers is the fact we have been treated like disease carrying rejects for years. We have been alienated, abused, unfairly taxed and made to be social outcasts wherever we go. For God's sake, it is socially acceptable to tell a smoker he stinks. Can you get by with that in general? No, But you can say it to a smoker!
These are most important issues to all smokers I know personally.
People want to quit for 2 reasons. Health and the above mentioned social/economical issues. The e-cig solves both problems. I personally don't want to quit, and neither do most people in my humble opinion, but they feel like they now have no choice because acceptable thresholds have been crossed for one of the above reason. Either they can’t afford it anymore or they are tired of walking 3 blocks off property in the dead of winter to smoke.
So, marketing these products for the purpose of quitting is actually less effective than the liberation angle from my perspective, and avoiding it helps us all in the long run.

Just my 2 cents

Hi all,

I have some questions regarding the name of the electronic cigarette.

Is this the name how we really should call it or is it still better to search to alternatives like calling it a: personal vapor device also known as e-cigarette?

regarding the Stop smoking: Many people like to give their personal statement by saying it helped them stop smoking. What would be better, not posting it or posting it (what I think by posting it would be good for bussiness)

Hey everyone,

This industry is always going to be under the gun from government governance. This has to be changed at the top. Petitions will be spat on before they hit the shredder.

I think we have no choice but to play the game by their rules. If you watch the news, you can see that the rules are simple. If it doesn't work, change the name. The stimulus bills are now "job bills", "free health care" is now "affordable health care", we aren't even at "war" with "terrorists" anymore.

If you're not already, pay attention to the elections. Then get out and vote, what do you want? What do your customers want? I am under the impression everyone is cool with e-cigs except big tobacco and pharma. How much did you contribute to campaigns? How much did they?

We have to just take it as it comes for now. If they ban "kits", we have to work around that with another name. For now, we don't know the next move. Is the NY ban a surprise to you? Look at the people running that state and who's supporting the ban.

The FDA is after your salt shaker now. It won't stop there. Never think the petitions will help, no one reads health care bills or immigration laws, no one reads our petitions either. get used to that. If you don't like it, you have to vote the bums out. It's a free country, right? Right?

Yeah, I'm mad as hell, and in case you haven't noticed, I will not be silent. Am I going to stand alone? That's up to you people. You can sit there in your chair and watch me, I don't mind, thank me later.
