Impressed with the el cheapo $1 chip

I bought an orchid v4 rebuildable and my ego style batteries wouldn't fire the dual coils. I checked out different battery boxes but decided to build my on dc-dc converter for voltage control.
Ordered about $200 worth of discrete components and a few lm2596's from china as a fall back.
I built some working circuits with components that theoretically should have smoked the 2596 but none of them could.
This is my first mod and that 2596 has no problem with a 1.2 ohm coil at 6.5 volts. Thats 5.4 amps and 35.2 watts. Not bad for a $1 chip.

Good job on building your own mod. The lm2596s are old reliable voltage converters. They aren't the most efficient or smallest but they do work well and are cheap.

Thanks for the responses. It's still a work in progress. I'm waiting for a voltage gauge I plan to rig to also read ohms with because it's a pita to dig out the dmm every
time I build a coil.

Added a voltage meter that i can toggle to battery input, regulator output and off. Highest current I actually get with a one ohm coil is 4.24I at 4.24E or 18W.
