I have been wondering this for a while, but I feel it is sort of unethical for me, being from Minnesota, to reach out to state legislatures from other states. I feel that I should disclose I am from another state. Any thoughts?

If you tweet, don't worry about it. If sending a letter or e-mail, identify your location and how this ban will affect you. Perhaps you have plans to go visit. In the case of NY state, you have no intention of visiting a state where you would get arrested for something that is legal everywhere such unfair laws are not in existence.

I'll do this. I haven't really been pulling my weight and I would like to do what I can. That was the one question I have had but hadn't asked. Thanks.

You should get one! I mostly only use mine for this.
There are some minor hoops to jump through, but once you are established it should work just fine.
Get the account, post you account ID here, and we will "follow" you.
The first week or so, try only sending out two or three tweets.. I will check for them and favorite them.
You should be able to re-tweet as well.
After a week, see if you can stretch your wings and join in the fun!!

I tend to re-word them a bit, using all the same # words... Just to keep it fresh.
Noevilstar does a wonderful job of giving us the starting point we need for them!

While tweeting it's all fair game. Other forms of contact, I identify where I'm from. I'm in NY, so I've been contacting my reps daily. I've also been handing out cigalikes to anyone interested in one with a card from CASSA. I've joined forces with a local vendor who was kind enough to give me "sample" rechargeable cigalikes and coffee flavored cartos to pass out to people along with the literature I got from CASAA to my clients and their guests in the coworking center I work in. I've even gotten non smokers to take them.

I didn't have a Twitter account until last year. I got it for this use only. It's easy to setup and it's free. I think I now know just enough about it to be really dangerous

As far as I'm concerned, the internet is fair game to everyone. I have no compunction about emailing legislators in any state. I look on it as educating them, tho if I have a connection to a particular state or locality, I'll specify that. (And if I'm really seriously p*ssed, I'll copy the state's/locality's tourist bureau with an "Now I'll never visit [location] again" notice.)

- Just to Echo what some others have said, when it comes to FB, Twitter, and even Email, it's really the numbers that count. I look at it like this: This is a national issue (well, really a global one). Every small municipality, large city, and State that passes anti-vaping legislation is contributing to the national discussion. It's only fair that we, the consumer, include ourselves at every opportunity. Afterall, if we don't, they're sure not keen on letting us in.

noevilstar, it is global. Major regions are waiting for the shoe to drop and copy what the other one does. All the smaller regions are simply going to copy what the bigger countries do. There is no nationality in this fight - it's all us, regardless of the country we live in.
