Okay, so I lied (not intentionally!!). Couple changes.
In preparation for my trip, I had decided to put fresh wick and coils in everything. Figured I'd do the Drunker first.. I did the crimping with the silver wire. Easy as PIE! Feed the two wires in (using 32g Kanthal and 30g silver it was a breeze!), crimped them together, gave a little tug to make sure it was secure, and trimmed any excess on either side. I did something idiotic and wound up troubleshooting a short for FAR too long (it was really dumb, the wire pulled under the center pin wasn't yet trimmed.. and was just barely touching the threads... lol).
Then the cotton round wick just kept falling apart on me. I love the rounds in my drippers, but not sure I can get them working in this tank. We shall see.
So I decided to do something I hadn't tried before, and that's remove the strong cotton threading from the yarn (just 1 or 2 pieces of it to keep the pretty shape). Once I removed that threading, the yarn took on the consistency of cotton wool/batting.. Like a cotton ball thread that was one big, long piece.
So far, it's looking like that was the best move I've made. Wick looks bea-utiful. It's wicking much better than it ever had before. Unfortunately, the coil I wrapped was sized for the rounds, so we'll see how well the yarn expands or fits in the coil.
One of the parents needs me to do some stuff tomorrow, so instead of going to Charlotte and to a gun show, looks like I'm headed across town to see my dad.
Guess I won't be out of pocket after all!
I didn't take pictures of the crimping process because I didn't know if it would work or if I would have to try several different ways to get it right. I'll get it next time. But it's really easy.
OH! And I switched out my rubber grommet for the silicone one from Surevapes. To be honest, I like the replacement ones from Surevapes better. They're a bit longer, so I feel like they're hugging my wires in place. Plus, they are clear. I like the look.
That's all for now folks!
