Ive been using 32awg (10.9ohm per foot) nichrome with 4/5 wraps and achieving 2.2ohms on the Drunker. The same wire with 7/8 wraps gets me 3ohms

I just now ordered some Kanthal "A" 30awg (8.5ohm per foot) in hopes of getting more wraps (surface area) for relatively the same endpoint ohms (2.2ohms is my sweet spot)

anyone else using 30awg Kanthal in there Drunker's? How many wraps and what ohm's?

I have one and I don't like it, the top cap pops off and goes flying with a nudge (keep in mind I am clumsy). The kitten went running down the hallway with it more than once.

I finally have my drunker working really well. At first I made the cotton wicks too big and they were getting choked. Rebuilt it last night, let it soak until this afternoon and I am loving it!

Bought 3 from MadVapes. The quality is not the greatest on the one I'm using and I suspect the two laying on my desk will be about the same quality. I agree, the threading has a lot to be desired.

But I still like it better than I did my Vision Eternity Rebuildable Drip Atty. The draw and flavor are much better on the Drunker (in my opinion). Still haven't got rebuilt the Drunker, & the next couple days are really busy so won't get to rebuilding for a bit.

I think I just got a bad one. I was looking forward to putting new winks in it but tried it with how it came. I may be able to seal it somehow and get it working, who knows.

On a good note the octopus that I also ordered with the Drunker is really nice. Using the same coil it came with just pulled out the silica and replaced with cotton and working great. Very happy with that atty from GotVapes. Wish now I ordered a couple more.

Hoping there is a version 2 of the Drunker that is a little better made.

Unless you wrap to the same diameter and pitch, your results would vary anyway. You'd probably get closer to just measure it out and go from there.

8.5 ohms pre foot gives you around ~ .7 ohms per inch. Mack reports that the legs are about 1/2 inch each on the drunker. That will give you ~.7 ohms for the legs. If you wrap 2 inchs for the coil, that would give you ~1.4 ohms for the coil area (total ~ 2.1 ohm). Adding another 1/2 inch on each leg to work with that will be broken off when you finish would give you a 4 inch wire to start with.

So to lay it out, cut a 4 inch piece of wire and starting about an inch from the end, coil it until about an inch is left. Then you can measure each leg, knowing that less that an inch left on each leg will increase ohms and more will decrease them.

Hope this helps. :vapor:

Thanks.... My plan is to wrap a large coil (same diameter Im using now, and very tight) probably 10/11 and have it "floating" just above the ceramic cup, making the legs that much longer. Im pretty sure through trial and error I should be able to figure it out and have the perfect ohm.

Thanks for your help

I think I'm going to bore the wick holes a little wider sometime today. I've been having singe problems when chain vaping so a wider wick hole should fix the problem. Will report back with the results.

Thats a really good idea. I was thinking of dremmeling those grooves myself back when I was using a wider wrap with more wick. I really dont see how it could do anything but improve the Drunker.... Unless you break the ceramic.

I'd suggest starting with a bit the same size as the hole if you hadn't thought of that already. Good luck!

I'm going to use my proxxon rotary tool, I have a full set of different size/shape diamond burrs. I love those diamond burrs, I've used them to work on wood, rock, glass, metal and they still hold up.

I would be extremely careful with the ceramic, they break very easily. I already broke one that JD sent me just trying to take it apart. I think I'll use the broken one I have to test to see if there is a way to grind the slots wider.

My first attempt at coiling/wicking the Drunker myself ended in abject failure. First I tried stretching some Q-Tip cotton into string, then I tried cutting and rolling cheesecloth into string. I do not have any idea how to make string, so I gave up on that.

Then I got out some silica wick that I purchased before I had ever even heard of the Drunker, and could NOT, after wrapping the coil, get the silica to go through the holes in the center piece thing. So I cut some longer silica wick and carefully wrapped each of the 4 ends with tiny, tiny pieces of Scotch Tape to keep the wick from unraveling before pushing it through the holes. This actually worked.

Then I somehow managed to tear the little rubber grommet beneath the positive post, but tried to just seat it back in anyway, as it wasn't torn all the way through. The Provari gave me LO and E1 errors (most likely because of the leads and the rubber since I'm pretty sure the coil is OK), and I'm calling it a night.

Despite the fact that the threading is cheap and you can't just get all the replacement components in one place, I really like the Drunker. The stock setup has proven to be a reliable, excellent vape and leak-proof, but— right now at least— the prospect of successfully rebuilding this seems daunting. Since I've gotten somewhat adept at dealing with the Genny/SS mesh scenario, I thought this would be easier, but it's not. It's a whole different skill set.

I still have one more Drunker with a stock setup, and will try this again when I have time and the frustration subsides. In the meantime, I've very grateful to have a Cobra.

Today I finally tried for the first time to make my first coil on the drunker, or anything else for that matter. I worked on it for about 1 1/2 hrs. To make one coil. Lol. I used cotton roll that was previously boiled. Took a few tries to get it the right thickness for a wick. Had a hell of a time feeding the wires through those tiny hotels and getting coil in right but did. OMG then getting the cotton to go into the tiny holes left me grumbling. Finally got it all put back and very warily put it on my Provari to see what ohms once I soaked the cotton wick real good. It's reading at 4.9 ohms which is way too high so I haven't used it. I will set it aside and try again later when I have the time and patience. At least it fired though. Ha!

So I put it aside and couldn't resist to try it again. Took me about 20 mins. This time used 3/4 coils, I think, with 34 gauge kanthal and using a paper lip to wrap the coil. This time it reads 3.3 ohm which is okay but needs to be lower. Gonna see if I slowly break this one in, if it turns out good. Sort of excited that I actually made a working coil in less time :)

Just make sure you let juice soak into your wick for at least an hour before vaping it (if you're using cotton balls).

I setup a 5ohm coil on the Drunker once. I'm sitting there wrapping, saying "6 is good. Yeah, 6 wraps."

I switched from 34g to 32g and started wrapping less coils, and using NR legs. My coils are right where I need them now. I'll typically vape anything from 1.2ohm to 3.0 though.

A trick with getting the wire through the tiny holes in the ceramic cup -- make sure one leg is slightly longer than the other (trim one a little if you have to). That way you can focus on getting one wire through its hole, and still have the other one in nearly the right place without bending it.

Making coils is kind of addictive, and it does get to be pretty fun once you get the hang of it. I'm glad you tried again. :)

I know I haven't been around a whole lot lately -- work's got me running around, and I've been putting a lot more time into RBAs that aren't so easy to set up and get working... Sigh.. :p

The flavor is actually coming across real nice at 5.5v on the Provari. Here's a pic of it on my kicked BAM. I think next time I will make the wicks slightly thinner and less coil. This is 3/4 wraps, I think, with 34 gauge kanthal. The draw on it is nicer than the wick it came with. The original wicks are too airy a draw for me. Thank you so much for all your help. I love this thread! :) image.jpgimage.jpg
