Did my usual cleaning today but I used "Super Strength Greased Lightning" as my cleaning agent, in about a 50/50 solution, left them in there about an hour. The Stainless came out great, nice and clean but the brass parts came out blackened.

I used Braid-nu and the parts that need to be shiny cleaned right up.

I don't have a bottle of that to check the label, but a quick google search gives me several warnings not to use it on pewter, brass or aluminum.

Not dissing on you at all, just a cautionary point for anybody reading this thread to always check your labels and what materials your cleaners are recommended for

The bottle I have says not to use it on Painted, varnished or acrylic surfaces - Leather - Aluminum (Plain, Anodized or alloy) - Laminated or clear-coated surface - Wood, nothing about Brass, but you are right buried on the website it says not to use on brass.

"Not dissing on you at all, just a cautionary point for anybody reading this thread to always check your labels and what materials your cleaners are recommended for" I did not take it that way, and I do agree with you about reading the labels.

Not on most of those parts, zoid. The connector potentially can, but the rest is well away from the juice (telescope tube, buttons, battery posts, etc)

zoiDman - Yes, every once in a while I get liquid on my fingers from filling it and touch the outside parts or some times it gets inside the collector tank.

    Gotcha.

BTW Caffeine... I think soaking Bare Brass in Vinegar will remove surface Oxidation.

You might try it on a spare piece before you do it on your MOD parts.

I heard this is bad, can anyone confirm? If not, id like to try this too =)

    Vinegar is Pretty Forgiving.

Being Acidic, it works well for removing Iron Oxides (rust) but it is Slow. But Slow is a Good Ting in that it doesn't Etch Steels like some more Caustic Acids can.

I believe it does the same for Brass but someone should do a Test Piece First.

zoiDman - I don't think I would try vinegar to clean the brass parts, normally I just use a mild dish soap, warm to hot water and a ultrasonic cleaner. This time some of the parts were pretty grimy, I attend a welding school, lots of oil, rust and metal dust flying around, I figured I try that cleaner. The results were not what I was expecting, but it it did have an interesting effect. The parts that needed to conduct electricity I rubbed down with Never dull and Braid-nu, the rest I left patinaed, I am actually thinking of doing my full brass GGTS that way.

I looked around to find something Brass to test but Everything I was able to Find look Good Already.

I have a Bag of empty 30-06 shells somewhere but can't seem to located them. I did find a few things that had gone MIA so it wasn't a complete loss.
