So the way this forum works I guess I can't post in the battery help subforum, so I guess I'll have to wait until I have enough posts to ask about my specific inquiry (unless it's OK to ask about it here), but since I'm here I figured I'd say hello.

I started vaping about... a month ago? Picked up some njoy disposables at a local 7-11 since they weren't that expensive and I'm generally a light smoker. Was pleasantly surprised, bought a few other types of disposables to see what there was. Eventually started doing it enough that disposables weren't cost-effective and... brace yourselves, got myself a Blu starter kit. Within a week one of the batteries was unresponsive and the other was oversensitive. I managed to fix the unresponsive one using my skills as a 3rd year mechanical engineering student (read, smacking it around 'till it worked again) but the other one only got worse. Bought myself a replacement battery from Zee cigs, which I heard was better, but neglected to get a charger, figuring the blu USB charger would work. It didn't, and so just today I received a joytech USB charger that's supposed to go to the battery.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be working, and I'm beginning to suspect I somehow toasted the zee cigs battery by putting it on the blu charger. The charging light goes on, but it's been red for a couple of hours plugged into my laptop. When I unplug it, it's totally non responsive. No lights, no vapor, no nothing.

TLDR: I tried to use a Blu USB charger with a Joytech battery and think I might have totally ruined said battery.

I also have an eGo battery which, aside from the clearomizer that came with it being an utter dud, has served me quite well. The only problem is that I use it too much, on account of having way too much fun blowing vapor at things.

Stick with the Ego, longer battery life, and far more flexible a platform to use. Don't know the output of the blu cig charger, but if it is over 150mah charge output, it will pop a 510 cig-alike's inner circuitry which can only handle max, 150mah charge input. The Ego can handle 450mah charge input. The Ego is a little larger, cigar sized yes, but larger the "mah" rating on a battery, longer in between charges. So most suggest a minimum of 2 Ego batteries for a full days use. You'll probably be looking at a more robust unit later on down the road, where the Ego batts will become backup units for when you next unit goes to PV heaven and such. But yeah, sounds like a lot of substandard cheap clone batts you have had so far.

Huh. Well then. Sounds like I toasted it.

So... what now? As much as I like my Ego, I kind of like having a smaller, more cigarette like vape for when I'm not in front of my computer. Other than the crappy batteries I love the Blu 'charging pack' system. Aesthetics are kind of important to me, as are convenience and, though it's kind of a lost cause at this point, not spending too much. I also like being able to pick up Blu cartridges at the local store, even if it is more expensive.

Should I buy another zee cigs battery, or just call it quits and start over with another brand/battery system?

There are options out there for smaller e cig setups. The joye e roll is a new thing that is pretty popular on the forum.
Joyetech eRoll, Mini Electronic Cigarette
Various suppliers on the forum carry them. Along with other types of little e cigs. BTW hello and welcome :)

Hmm, those do look nice. Fairly cheap replacement parts too. Can anyone vouch for their quality?

I can vouch for the eRoll quality and performance. As has been said earlier, you can read many threads here about the eRolls to learn more. However, from my experience they are grrrreat :) I have had no problems with leaking, they are more ciggy sized, the PCC lasts all day and I just pre-fill tanks and carry them around in a tic tac box when I am out and about. I use my eRoll when I am out and something bigger when at home.

Cheers

Safety First. These cig-alikes are also using lithium-ion cells. Though small, they're just as dangerous as the bigger ones. They can explode if the protection ckt fails. Pls charge them only using the charger that came with the kit. I cannot post a weblink. Most of the cig-alikes (JoyE's included), cell phones, etc. use batteries manufactured by Dongguan Deltaic, holds a patent on exploson-free Li-ion cells. But ... We'll never know ... Just be on the safe side. BTW, welcome to the forum.
