I'm having an issue that when I put a newly charged battery in my mod it seems to give out way more power than the battery I just replaced despite the same voltage/wattage being displayed. It's like it's not regulating properly. The same happens with a freshly charged Efest or a green Samsung so I doubt it's the battery.

It's annoying putting in a fresh battery and then having my build start to taste burnt immediately after even at the lowest setting (7 watts).

Any ideas what's going on here? Is there an objective way to measure how much power my device is putting out besides it's own lcd?

The D2 does not have a "buck" or step-down circuit in Wattage mode, so it can not fire lower voltage than whatever the battery is supplying.

For low power Kanthal vaping... put the mod in Nickel mod, set the temp up high and the power (Joules) as low as you want.

It's one of the few TC mods that will not kick out of TC mode if a non-TC wire is used.
There may be an upper resistance limit though.

Ok so when I'm in kanthal mode the only thing I can adjust is the power which isn't actually accurate since like you said, this device doesn't step down and won't supply less power than the battery is giving out. It seems to me that my only option is to only charge my batteries half way or to use a nickel build. This is really surprising to me because I was under the impression that the D2 was a quality device with a good chip.

Afaik there is no way on this device to put it in nickel mode when using kanthal.

I found out how to switch to temperature control to get it to step down. Thanks for your help Jim.

Excellent.

As to P4Y's quality... I only have the D2 from their products, and while I love the package, I despise the menu system. It doesn't get used as much as it deserves. It's still a pocket rocket. :)

They're not the only one to leave out a buck circuit, but it's unusual.
When the D2 arrived, almost a year ago, it was an amazing handful of power.
Tiny af with 75w AND TITANIUM TC. Titanium !!1!1! :p

A great many of us early adopters were using TC and fairly low Kanthal coils. It wasn't an issue.
It was several weeks I think before the missing stepdown was discovered (widely).

And thus... the workaround was born. :D
(I'm not just an advocate... I'm using it now. Though I'm at the high end - 0.72/27J.)

Ya besides the aggravation of going through countless rebuilds till I was able to figure out the step down issue (with your help) this is a pretty awesome device. I've had my Nautilus leak all over it and it still works like a tank. Very good construction, great form factor, looks pretty sick and packs a ton of power.
