Ambeck, so SO happy for you and Sprinkles!! :) Still praying for your both, just in case!

What is it with cats and boxes or bags! lol Because we're so far out in the sticks, I do a lot of online shopping, so packages come in regularly. Well, the second I empty a box, SOMEbody occupies it (with all these cats!) -- some times we end up with boxes scattered all over the house because we're suckers and won't take them away from the babies!!

Oh, and for those of you doctoring cats and thinking dogs are easier, for many I've had both and doctored both -- the single most difficult one was a dog!! We went through a loooooooot of pills!! :glare:

It's been a while since I updated, but the receptionist neglected to tell me Sprinkles had to have his medicine 4-6 hours before having his blood drawn and he had run out of his medicine the day prior (I did tell her that), so we had a wasted vet trip and had to schedule another one a week later. Anyway, the vet called yesterday or the day before (I LOVE that I get to speak to the vet for results and not receptionist or nurse), and apparently Sprinkles is very sensitive to the meds. He's been taking 5mg a day, 2.5mg in the morning and 2.5mg at night, and his thyroid level went from 15 to 0.5 . It's supposed to be around 4. He had been puking and having ........ a week after starting the meds, so that's probably why. She said to give him 1 a day and go back in a few weeks. Giving him the pill is still super easy; right now, I just put the pill in his mouth, he swallows it, and then I give him a couple of treats. His liver enzymes have normalized as well. So, that's where we stand right now, and he seems to be feeling better and crying less. No weight change that I can see, but he wasn't seen at his last appointment, just had blood drawn. Here's a picture; really stinky, but I had to take it with my phone since my camera's battery died. Thank you all!!

He has one in the kitchen with a crocheted hot pad in it (purfect fit!) and one in the living room as well . They just enjoy them SO much that I can't bear to take them away from them. The bigger cat, Ashes, will run Sprinkles off and plop his wide .... in them and flatten them, eventually :p.

I've never had to give a dog medicine, but my cousin would doctor her dog and she (the dog) would run to another room and throw it up; this was after making sure she had swallowed it! At times, she would hide it in her jaw or under her tongue :). Sweet dog, but she didn't like medicine!

Thanks again!! Glad I had good/better news to report :).

ambeck, haven't heard anything for a while -- how is Sprinkles? Better, I hope!! :)

Still so far, so good. We're supposed to give him a few weeks on the lower dose and then they call to make an appointment or we call to make an appointment. I think they are to call . Right now, Mommy needs to get taken care of; I have to have an EGD, meet with an anesthesiologist, and get my gallbladder removed in a couple or 3 weeks. Hopefully, his appointment won't coincide with mine since my hospital is farther away!

Thank you for asking about him :).

Great news on Sprinkles Ambeck! Not so great news on the EGD (I assume that's esophagogastroduodenoscopy? That's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head) and gallbladder surgery. I had my gallbladder removed several years ago. I won't say it's a piece of cake (everyone told me it was, and I wanted to kill them all after!) but it's really not too bad. Just don't expect to go out dancing afterwards! Keep us updated, please!

Thank you :). I don't think I could feel much worse than I do right now, honestly, but no plans for dancing any time soon ;). Yes, EGD is esophagogastroduodenoscopy. My mom fusses at me for spouting off medical lingo without explaining because I work in the medical field .

((((Ambeck)))) How're ya doing? do you have the surgery scheduled yet?

I'm hanging in there. I had my surgery yesterday; it was scheduled for June 5 but there was a cancellation and I went yesterday, June 1. I am SORE, but not hurting where my gallbladder was, just the umbilical incision that was made. He didn't have to make any extra incisions, luckily, like they do sometimes. I was kept overnight and came home today. I'm actually supposed to be in bed!!

As for Sprinkles, he had an appointment on Wednesday and I was called yesterday by the vet and told to give him his meds twice a day again because his levels were elevated once more. The vet said cats can be okay/function with hypothyroidism more so than humans, so he's to take 2.5mg twice a day (5mg total) and he doesn't have to go back for 3 months!! Good news for me since each appointment is $70. I love the bugger to death, but $70 a month was going to be a little difficult. He had stopped pooing outside the litter box until Friday night because I didn't come home and he was upset. My mom was here, but that wasn't good enough for him, apparently. At least he pooed IN the bathroom where the litter boxes are.

Thank you for asking about me. I should get my .... back in bed :).
