Is it normal for a Vivi Nova coil to burn out in just 2 days use?

Well, technically I got it in the mail on Thursday evening, now its Saturday night, and I started tasting a burnt taste to the Vivi Nova, so just like I would do the the kanger T2 coils, I removed the coil and rinsed it out with water, then sprayed through it with a spray bottle set on stream, blew it out, dried it with a paper towel, and re-installed it into the Vivi Nova Mini. But when I refilled it with juice and went to vape it, there was no power getting through the coil apparently, and no vapor at all. So I assume the coil is burnt out. Thats the first time in 5 weeks I've had a coil, an atty a carto or anything wear out like that! Its also the least time I've used a particular coil or atty or carto, so why would it wear out in just 2 days?

I am just using tobacco flavors, with no cinnamon or heavy menthol, and it was a 2.4 ohm coil being vaped at 4.7 volts on a Lava Tube(Torpedo VV). I used the same coil on My kanger T2 for over a week with no failure, and my Ego-T atty for over 2 weeks with no problems, and none of the 3 Smoktech cartos I bought 5 weeks ago and get used sparingly have burnt out either! I've been using the ame basic types of juices in all these too....

So why does the expensive Vivi Nova coil burn out in 2 days? Like I mentioned above, it WAS working but had a slight burnt flavor when I removed it for cleaning, but that burnt flavor just started. Can they not handle being rinsed out? I cant imagine thats the case, but it was working before, and I even went back and installed it again to make sure it wasnt working a 2nd time, but again, nothing. The new coil I put in now works, so......

I've used nothing 'cept Vivi Nova's since they've been available. My experience. . .my coils have lasted everywhere from 2 drags too 2 months. I'm afraid it's a luck of the draw QC thing with this stuff coming outta China. That's why I wait for a Co-op purchase and buy them by the pound almost. JMHO

Cheers,

I rinse mine pretty regularly also, but not with a stream from a spray bottle. Maybe the stream dislodged one of the coil wires?

Either way, that is a bummer!

I decided to take it apart and look at the coil, and although its really tiny and I have a hard time focusing on it well, it doesnt appear to be broken anywhere. There is a cylindrcal material that surrounds it and it had a little hole burnt into it, and the wick right where it is surrounded by the coil is darker than the outer wick area, but I would imagine most of that would be kinda normal. Besides, the coild looks intact. When I pulled it, the 2 ends of the wire didnt appear to be connectd to anything, and I know I might have dislodged them when I took the coil apart, but maybe I previously dislodged one side of the coil when I cleaned it and sprayed it with water, or when I wiped the wick down, whenever.....

But also, someone pointed out that I might be using too much voltage for a 2.4ohm coil at 4.7v, so now I am using the 1.8ohm coil at 3.7-3.8 volts. Is that OK? I tried 3.2v but that seems way too low and I barely get a hit at all on 3.2v....

Here is a link to a thread that has a spreadsheet you can download and use (if you have Microsoft Excel) that breaks all the volts to ohm's down. It's a great asset and there are versions of this in an image form that I keep on my desktop as well that I will try to find if you don't have Excel.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ur-battery-temperature-preferences-excel.html

This sheet is great and I also have gone to the way of the vivi and have 2 running now, 2.4ohm around 3~4v and they are working great.

[Edit]

Right after posting I see The Ocelot posted the thread to the image.. Now, like me, bookmark or sub to the thread to keep it handy! Thanks Ocelot! :)

I think BLASTING it with a spray bottle may just be a little too much for those little coil wires to hang on. Just a rinse under the tap with warm water is fine. I always do a dryburn too. It gets rid of the excess water and you can see that it is still working before you put everything back together.

Having said all that, my first vivi nova coil lasted 4 days.

Ok, thanks for the voltage chart, that will come in handy, and it look like I was just 1 block over the too much voltage line with a 2.4ohm coil with 4.7 volts. The chart seems to say that 4.5 volts would have been OK. I've now got the 1.8ohm coil at 3.7 volts which is supposedly Ok.

But I dont think that was why it stopped working last night, although maybe it wouldve shortened the coils life eventually. I think the wire ends got pulled out of their connections when I cleaned it. These Vivi Nova coils' wires must be less durably connected than the Kanger T2 coils, which are half the price! I rinsed and dried the Kanger T2 coils daily exactly the same way for over a week with no problems, but maybe this was also a dud...

Its back to working good now though. I made the mistake of buying extra 1.8 and 2.2 ohm coils, thinking that I wouldve been using it on my Ego battery(3.4 volts), but I had ordered the Vivi Nova over a week before it finally got here, and by that time I switched over to a variable voltage PV, so...... Fortunately I only bought 4 extra coils though, so I'm not stuck with too many inadequate coils. I will order 2.8 - 3.0 ohm coils next time.

I haven't tried a Kanger - yet. I got my first vivi and made the mistake of wiping the wicks a bit vigorously and dislodged it. So I inspected the thing and saw how itty bitty those coils were so just put on a new one. I haven't torn another off yet, since I saw how delicate they are. I just take a paper towel and gently squeeze the wicks now. I haven't had a problem since.

Glad you got it fixed up, and the voltage worked out.

The problem I have with Vivi Nova heads are with use the resistance goes down on them. I have one on my ProVari that is 6 days old. It started at 2.8 ohms & has slowly lowered itself to 1.4 ohms. (This one has changed very drastically!) So, everytime the ProVari throws an E1 or E2 code, I drop the voltage a few 10th's. It started doing this on day 3.

I had a 1.8 ohm head that came with the Vivi Nova that lasted 2 1/2 months on the ProVari & another month on my Lavatube before it quit. I have a 2.4 ohm head on the Lavatube that is almost a month old, I've had another couple that made it a week or two on the ProVari & Lavatube. I really believe it to be the luck of the draw. I'm happy if I get a week, I'm ecstatic if I get more. BTW, the one that lasted the longest was the short wick type!

Let me ask the obvious question. If your other stuff is so great, why would you get a Nova in the first place?

I haven't got a VIVI NOVA yet (I've got four coming from a co-op), but when I want to clean the gunk out of my Penelope coils, I use hot water in a syringe with a #14 blunt needle ... I can control the force of the spray by how hard I push the plunger, and the needle lets me direct the spray right between the coils. Works a treat for me ... YMMV

A very valuable tool that helps all vapers can be had for under 10 bucks. Pick yourself up an inexpensive multimeter and learn to use the volts and ohms scales in testing your equipment. The information that can be obtained from such a tool goes a LONG way in solving many vaping problems, such as 'is my coil burnt out' or 'what is my actual voltage'. If you are not sure that you can handle the use of a meter, then MadVapes sells a little ohmmeter for 20 bucks; screw on your carto or atomizer and it will directly read out the ohms. An ohmmeter will also show you if the device is shorted; something you definitely don't want to screw onto your battery.
