Hey Everyone,

I love that we can get super low ohm builds in our rda's now a days but I am concerned that building with nickel wire may be very unsafe and unhealthy. What do you guys think? I have had trouble finding any information on this particular question. I would love to hear what you guys have to say about it.

For the most part Nickel it pretty safe, especially when you think about the fact we have been vaping with it for a long time, though in other alloys, Kanthal A1, and Nichrome. In temp control using Ni200 again it is still safe if you use it properly, do not use it on any other device other than a TC mod, at around 800F it starts to break down and enter the vapor aerosol, most TC mods only cap out at 600F, and at 1200F it will melt. So as long as you are below 600F, there is no real danger unless you are dry burning it often due to lack of liquid. I don't use it in my drippers, yet in one of my Subtanks it is one of standard builds. Have to remember, TC mainly was developed to keep diacetyls, acrolein, formaldehydes, and such from forming at very high temperatures, not just to keep keep people from getting dry hits, thus the chipsets have been programmed to control below certain temperatures below Nickel's break down and melting temps.

In temperature-control mode, on a temperature-control enabled device: we don't know. Probably?

In wattage mode or on a non-TC enabled device: most certainly not.

Nickel-containing alloys (like Kanthal or Nichrome) are a different story, but DO NOT use pure nickel (Ni200) except in temperature-control mode, on a temperature-control enabled device.

I know it's up in the air but is titanium considered any safer or does it also have no concrete backing?

I am not a metalurgist by any account. But I can't even say Kanthal A1 is safe. In all honesty we do not know what is really happening chemically or sub-atomically with any heated metal or substance (example ceramic). Titanium Grade 1 will create an oxidizing layer if heated dry (dry firing), when wet is another matter as you are cooling it off via heat flux and evaporation, just like any metal we use as our coils. Like I stated above, if you use the metal in its proper application like Ni200, chances of causing an issue are reduced.

Is vaping itself "healthy?"
Truth is nobody knows for sure. Not enough research done to make a definitive statement on if vaping or the materials we use in vaping are safe.

It's all down to personal choice. I chose not to use Nickel because if you can taste your coil wire in your vape to me that's not a good sign. Same as I stopped using silica wick years ago (risk of inhaling tiny glass fibres.. not good imo).

But each vaper has to decide if they are prepared to take the risk.
