I first tried vaping a couple years ago, and pretty much all that was available were automatic batteries on anything that looked like an analog. Since I've returned to vaping, and found the eGo with MANUAL batteries, it has made a world of difference!!

For me, it has not been the 510-type ecigs so much as the manual batteries that have made the difference. Having control over the heating/vaporizing element has kept me from primer-puffs and the fish-face it took just to activate the automatic batteries. That did not simulate the "smoking experience" that I was seeking at all...and the reason I think we're all here in the first place.

Once you've sorta replicated the "smoking experience" to your satisfaction with whatever ecig you can find, then I think there is a second phase...the "vaping experience"...where plumes of vapor and different tasting ejuices become more important.

I haven't reached the second phase yet, so right now my manual batteried eGo is working out just fine. But as I stated earlier, it's the manual batteries that have made the difference. So, while I haven't gotten manual batteries now for my old KR8 cartos that I still have stored in the closet, I tend to think it might work just as well to simulate that "smoking experience."

So, in a nutshell, I'm not so sure that it's specific to the 510 as the be-all/end-all ecig, but more of whatever will simulate the easy draw/vapor level/hassle-free/mindless "smoking experience" you have been used to indulging (45 years for me).

Having started w/ a xhaleo2, moved onto a 510 auto and PT, then eGo and have added to my collection the SmokeStik RN4081 and a KR8 mega, I really don't understand WHY everyone suggests to new members that the 510 is the best. It clearly(to me anyway) is not. I am assuming that people who recomend the 510 haven't tried other e-cigs, but that isn't so. I see people who use eGos and mods recomending the (feeble) 510. In it's auto form it is lousy due to it's microphone activation switch, only worse was my xhaleo2 from 7-11. In it's manual form, it's 'OK', but certainly not the best. About equal to a DSE901 in terms of voltage(3.2v), accessory availability and fog maker ability. Nothing THAT special. I am afraid that people new to e-cigs may try a 510 on the advice of someone on here, and decide after hearing things like "It is the standard when it comes to e-cigs", that they will decide that there is no e-cig that works well enough for them. I loved my 510, in comparison to the xhaleo2. But within a week ordered an eGo first chance I got. And the 510 was left aside for backup(which it served well as when an eGo batt died). But, after trying SmokeStik autos(the closest PV to a real cig I've tried) and a KR8, I just cannot for the life of me figure out what is so special about the little 510. At about the same size, the KR8 has higher voltage, higher mAh, generally the same or lower price, and a vacuum activated auto switch which works rather well. Granted, the SS kits are not cheap so I do understand why not many have tried them, but they are the best cig replacement PV there is IMHO. I DO understand that everyone has their own likes and dislikes about their particular PV. I just cannot understand why the 510 is reguarded as "the best e-cig for newbs". Please elaborate any response as to why it is better, and also take part in the poll. I really would like the facts. TY

LowThudd- I agree 100% with you. The SmokeStik Hendu Elite is what I am using. I started vaping 32 day's ago and haven't touched an analog cigs since. The SmokeStik is so close to smoking the real thing that I couldn't have imagined how easy it would be to lay down my analogs after 26 years (shame on me) I wish this product had been around when I first started smoking and perhaps I would'nt have ever been a smoker. SmokeStik has been a God send for me. I tell every smoker I know about the SmokeStik and even let a precious few try mine:) every single person who has sampled my SmokeStik has been very impressed with how it compares to smoking the real thing, but as you stated the price does tend to make people frown. Personally, it's the best investment I've ever made. I hope everyone discovers the SmokeStik to be the best.

wow, no offense, but i just went to the smokestik site to check it out, and no matter HOW much you like them, you can't be serious in recommending a $99 starter kit that just has 2 batts, 3 cartos, a charger and a non-pcc case?

510 pcc kits (2 batts, 2 attys, pcc, 5 carts and a bottle of juice) are $49 at madvapes; riva kits (2 batts, 3 attys, 10 carts and a charger) are $29 at liberty flights, add $16 for 2 packs of boge cartos to either one and a bottle of juice to the riva package and a n00b has everything they need to get started w/o feeling like they got raped in the process. those are both great starting points. or if you insist on starting with a 808, $29 gets you two batts, 1 carto and a charger from lite-cig. many vendors now will also sub cartos for atty/cart combos on starter kits if requested, so you don't even have to bother with attys at all. compared to the $99 at smokestik, there's a lot of change left in ANY of those packages to bulk up with extra batts, cartos, juice, cases, whatever...

not challenging your preference; right now i'm vaping on a 380 maH XL 808 batt with an adapter to use my 510 boge lv cartos and it's a sweet combo, but seriously, push the product, not that particular vendor if you want credibility in this type thread. i read the first few pages with amusement, but the posts started calling out brands and vendors instead of just device types, and now when you call the smokestik the best investment you ever made, i have to question your motivation, especially since this is the type of thread a n00b who may not know how to shop around would read trying to decide how to get started...

I have suggested both the 510 and the KR8 to friends and my friends that bought the 510 and use cartos have the best luck. Although none of them have been able to stick with it without moving up to a mod.

I voted 510 just because my friends had the most luck with it. Not to mention that the ego is a cheap enough upgrade and then they are already used to it.
