So I did this because I'm a button masher and I'm trying to prevent my spring from bearing the intense wear of my gorilla fingers.
It's just another spring. The stock spring is still in place as per normality.
I'm no electrician, but this is my assumption:
Since the additional spring isn't grounded (I think?), in the case of a short, would the stock spring not collapse within the outside spring thus preventing me from potentially harming myself along with the inhabitants of surrounding cities?
The additional spring is cut so that it holds the 18650 right on top of the stock spring. That is to say, the stock spring is suffering very little compression.
Edit: Forgot to mention, the second spring has no give whatsoever. It is incredibly stiff. That's what I meant when I said it's just sitting on the stock spring. All the stock spring is doing is making contact.
