LED bulbs hit 100 watts as federal ban looms - Yahoo! News

here's a bit:
NEW YORK – Two leading makers of lighting products are showcasing LED bulbs that are bright enough to replace energy-guzzling 100-watt light bulbs set to disappear from stores in January.
Their demonstrations at the LightFair trade show in Philadelphia this week mean that brighter LED bulbs will likely go on sale next year, but after a government ban takes effect.
The new bulbs will also be expensive — about $50 each — so the development may not prevent consumers from hoarding traditional bulbs.

I guess it's a few trips to Home depot for bulbs! These idiots are going to green us to the poor house! I bet Edison is having a hissy fit!

Oh and what about those stupid curley fry lightbulbs my daughter stuck everywhere? The light is awful and hurts my eyes from straining to see.

I already see it on the horizon, a black market in light bulbs.

A year or so ago, we purchased some of the curley cue light bulbs. Seems to me that they defeat the purpose in some short term lighting situations. We had them in the laundry room, bedroom and one closet. Well I had to turn them on and then wait a while for them to "brighten up" enough for me to see. With regular bulbs, turn it on, get what you need, turn it off. I don't see the power saving in that. Maybe in rooms that are lighted for longer periods of time. And if the best they can do is a
$50 light bulb then someone needs to go BACK to the drawing board.

My storage room will now be hoarding light bulbs I guess, for a rainy day.

I have used the curley bulbs for years- only because they last longer- they are NOT as bright- and I hate that- But I am TIRED of the EPA dictating what i can and can not have. I am having to spend over 2,000 this week on my truck- because something the EPA dictates has to be on my truck went out! its nothing, it does nothing except make some EPA lawyer smile and giggle.

my husbands 18 wheeler stays broke down, which costs me our livlihood, with all the regeneration crap, and new EPA standards. it costs us thousands, and costs his company thousands- a month! The deisel consumption has doubled because of their new 'regulations' - the ethonal in our gas is EATING the rubber gaskets and lines in our vehicles. thats why your getting worse gas milage- and will have to pull off your gas tanks and replace your fuel intakes soon-

The light bulbs are the one that is in our face, but all the crap they do behind the scenes, things we dont see happening or just accept are whats going to kill our pocketbooks-

I have a lot of the curly bulbs, my son pushed me into using them! They do have some advantages - I love them in the spots that are difficult to change, they last a lot longer. The worst are the ones in the basement and outside by the front door. The colder they are, the longer they take to brighten.

I agree though, $50 for a bulb isn't going to fly in this house!
