I never smoked much, but I dipped a lot. And now that tins are getting up there in price with most of the common cig brands I am definitely saving money. I'm pretty sure everything I've spent on vaping so far, including a 2 month supply of juice would have bought me only about 3 weeks worth of cope tins

Dear KenXstyle;
Welcome to the large extended family at ECF! Like any large family, everyone chimes in, all have an opinion-its GREAT!
LMAO!:D I just HAD to read all the responses here.
Run through the "signature" banners for fun... many have a guestimated $ saved based on how much they spent per pack
and how many packs per day they smoked. (or similar calc.)
like many things- "just because you can" doesnt mean everyone WILL!...technology brings new opportunity and the toys for them
all the time in the vape world too.
Hard though to imagine - analogue for PV wont equal savings. :2c:
i think my vape is ranging from 20cents/day to what ever shopping spree I choose some days for the 'bigger, better - techno toy" game.
You'll see a heap of "vape budget" entries here.
All the best!!

In my opinion vaping can be cheaper, especially if we don't get caught up in getting this that and the other, and like we do for a car or anything else shop around, seek advice, and vape meets have been helpful to try juices and such. For the first 2-3 months I bought so many different juices, most of the on recommendation of others and boy have I learned how subjective taste is, now I have about 5 juices by certain makers I love, and I am making myself be more patient about ordering new flavors and that has saved the cost. Also with what I vape, going with glass tanks for the most part, the initial cost is worth it for me in the long run.

First, like others have said you need tank, battery, charger and juice. I was paying 7.00 per 10 ml bottle and to me that was just stupid, now I "roll my own" and I am going to give you two of the best places to get diy juice products.

1) Wizard Labs in Florida

2) Rts Vapes

Basically I went from having a cost for a 10 ml bottle of juice at 7.00 ...down to about 40 cents, that my friend is how much profit is in this selling 10 ml bottles to the public.

If I would of continued paying that price , I would of stopped do to the cost factor.

Good luck to ya,

Steve -

I always ask this question "How much is your life worth to you and is it worth spending your money to get off analogs"? I believe I know your answer.

I had my annual flu shot today.

Filling out the form before getting poked, one of the questions was "Do you smoke?" I've not had to answer that question since I switched over to vaping 11 weeks ago. Being able to check the "no" box on that form for the first time in 39 years meant a lot to me.

Short answer to the question from the OP -- priceless.

stop buying mods. simple as that. be happy with what you have already, sounds like you're sort of treating this as a new hobby to dump $$ into - which is fine, unless you aren't trying to dump $$ into it! pretty easy to work with what you have! i only have an e-roll, extra battery, and juices. i vape almost all day and all night, so far so good!

I used to smoke 6 cartons a month, average a carton and a half a week. My goal when I started vaping was to obviously quit smoking for a healthier alternative and to stop spending so much money. I went with 2 - 1000mh Ego Batteries($40),now they have the Evod that costs $6 and 2,5 packs of replacment coils for $12. That $58 Hardware will last me for a year on average. I go through 1 30 ml bottle of juice every 11 days and I vape heavily. If you are concerned about cost of juice look into mixing your own a lot of people do but just be careful with the Nicotine.

I have gone 100% nuts buying things from day one of vaping. I'm not sure if I'll ever break even with this new hobby however I find the health benefits I have gained far out weigh any expense I have incurred. It is impossible to put a price on just the fact I now get up in the morning and don't cough til I am about to pass out and that is just one thing that has made my life better. The complete list of benefits would be about 5 times longer than the average post.

Ok so In South African, Analogs was a bit cheaper I think than in the states.
They are selling for about R35 a pack i think. That is roughly $3.50 a packet with current exchange rate.
I smoked a packet a day, and this equates to roughly $90 a month.
Hence, My Budget for vaping is $90 per month.
I own about 4 mods, 6 or 7 tanks, and roughly 500ml of juice in total. I vape roughly 7 - 10ml per day. Depending on stress/workload etc...
To be Exact, I think this has turned into a hobby, rather than an addiction.

Once you have your mods, and a couple of tanks, get some gear to diy mix your own juice. Your expenditure will drop like a brick!
You can consider getting and RBA/RDA, but frankly for the amount you vape i do not think the saving will be huge. Get a protank 2/ protank mini 2/ and stack up on coils. Buy 2 boxes a month, even if you only use one. get a little surplus going. Once you're set, you will be easy vaping for a couple of bucks a month.

I agree with many of the previous posters, as to vaping being a lot cheaper than smoking.

Unless you just "have to have" every new and expensive mod. But buying those things is a choice, not a necessity. (Hey.. all those things really do is provide the electricity that you need to power your vaporizer ;) )
Unless you just "have to have" juice for 1$ a ml instead of the less expensive varieties. That is also a choice, not a necessity.

I have been vaping for almost 2 years, and I have invested some money in decent but not fancy hardware. To me, variable voltage is a must, a Provari is not. ;) I also started mixing my own juice some time ago, and now I vape tasty juice for very little money.

And one main difference between smoking tobacco cigarettes and vaping (from a money point of view):

-When you purchase cigarettes, and you light those cigarettes on fire and smoke them, then there is nothing left. Your money went up in smoke. But when you purchase vaping hardware, then you have the hardware and you can use it. For months or even years. Purchasing vaping hardware is an investment.

And as to what a person "must have" or not: that is a personal decision.
Some people "must have" the latest BMW, others are more than content with a Volkswagen Golf. :)
Some ladies "must have" the latest gold and diamond jewelry, others happily purchase some nice costume jewelry and wear it happily. By the way, there are many pretty vaping things for the ladies. And a nice metallic blue battery for 25 Euro makes me just as happy as a new pair of earrings ;)

It is all a matter of personal choice. Every person has to decide for themselves whether the most expensive stuff is "really" necessary to make them happy. Or if decent equipment for a decent price will not do the job just as well. :)

How much one spent on smoking makes a huge difference as to how much one can spend on vaping to make vaping cheaper. Those that spent $300 a month on smoking have a lot more room to buy vaping toys before vaping become more expensive then those that only spent $100 a month on smoking. ;)

I always tell those new to vaping not to expect to save any money for their first 6 months. Have fun trying new things and finding what makes them happiest vaping. Vaping can be as expensive or nearly as cheap as one wants depending on if they are happy with minimal purchases and doing DIY or if they wish to purchase all their juice from vendors and try out new toys all the time :D

i have made the switch to vapes for about 6 months and have spend A LOT of money. not just on mods but juices as well. before i switched i smoked about a pack a week. now that i switch i have bought 2 mods and normally would buy a 15ml bottle of juice a week. i understand it is the healthier route but the prices are killing me. mods range from 100-300$ and i see juices go for 1$ a ml. which i think is insane. what are you guy's opinions?!

It is cheaper 'if' (and that's a big word) you don't get caught up in the gadget race and don't buy the highest priced juice you can find...

Mods are, or can be, very expensive and there's always going to be one you'll see that you can convince yourself you just can't live without... But there are a few, like the Vamo (last price I saw on VaporBreak) was about $25 that are reliable and do everything you need...

As far as juice goes there are tons of vendors out that that offer high quality juice at far less a buck a ml... Look around or get into DIY and save a ton... DIY startup isn't that expensive - all you need are three or four syringes, some bottles (and you can reuse your store-boughts), nic juice, and flavorings... If you don't go nuts on flavors you can make great ejuice yourself for between 10 and 20 cents a ml...

It will be very difficult for the OP to have vaping become cheaper since they were only buying a pack a week

As others have said, $1.00 per mil is really quite high. You can find cheaper and still get good quality from many vendors. Once you find your sweet spot in gear and liquids, then you can potentially start saving.

The major expense is when first starting out. Getting the first setup, finding the right delivery system for you. Then trying the liquids till you get some that hits your taste buds just right.

I've managed to settle into my groove and now have a savings of $1,300.00. Even after getting 2 higher end PV's. I didn't purchase them until after I'd saved enough to cover the expense and still be in the black. Spreadsheets are good tools to keep spending in check. ;)

Yeah, it sounds like the OP treats vaping as a hobby -- and that's fine. Smoking, by contrast, isn't a hobby for most people. It's just something we do because we're conditioned to do it. Smoking cigarettes settles into a fixed routine with a more-or-less fixed cost (barring unavoidable price hikes like the absolutely immense cigarette tax levied in ~2009). It's pretty hard to go crazy with cigarette-smoking-related gadgets. I guess you could collect exotic lighters or something, but for the most part smokers pick a brand they like (often without much, if any, conscious effort), and then they buy X number of packs per week ad infinitum.

Vaping gives you far more options to customize the experience. Personally, I try to look at that as an advantage. The downside is that a lot of the available options require much more thought and cost much more (up-front) money than buying a single pack of (alternate) cigarettes.

And the gadgets? They're just cool. Messing around with them can be fun in its own right. But if you enjoy messing around with the gadgets, then you gotta accept that you'll be tempted to spend a lot of money experimenting. You have to appreciate the difference between the active pursuit of a full-blown hobby and the mostly reflexive (passive) nature of an addiction.

Vaping's probably not ideal for casual or so-called social smokers. If, in other words, cigarettes are little more than an accessory to you, then the world of vaping gadgets and accessories is likely to pull you down a rather expensive rabbit hole. In the OP's case, it sure sounds like he's not only more interested in vaping than he was in smoking; it sounds like he's also vaping a hell of a lot more often than he used to smoke. After all, even at $1 per mL, if he only vaped the approximate-equivalent amount of eliquid to cover his pack-a-week smoking habit, he'd still probably break even, eventually, provided he stops buying gadgets.

It's really not hard to save money. You just have to decide that you want to save money.

Regretfully (I lied, i do not regret it at all), i am hopelessly addicted to vaping, making DIY and buying vape toys :) {{{{caution: dork alert }}}}}

I estimate i spend about the same, but this is much healthier, i didn't gain weight like when i quit analogues for two years a decade ago before relapsing, and i enjoy the pursuit a hobby. I also enjoy puffing in restaurants, airports and other public places, it is hard to place a price on that.

All said, if i only vaped to keep the demon (nicotine addiction) at bay, i estimate i could do the whole thing for approx 10-12 USD/Month. This accounts for equipment depreciation, quantity buying high concentration nic juice, vg/pg, flavors, sundries, etc. This beats the pants off of the $50 a week in analog spending in the lowest price cigarette purchase state in the U.S. I paid prior to being 100% off the coffin nails.
