Hi,
A workmate is vacationing in Canada later this year and told me that he heard vaping is illegal in Canada. My stock answer was that maybe it's like cigarettes are here in the UK ie no smoking in enclosed public places, but I'd ask around. So...what's the deal arriving at Toronto airport and beyond?

Will his ego battery + evod combo be instantly confiscated by customs as contraband?
If so then can he easily replace it from shops?
If not then can he vape happily outdoors (or indoors with permission for that matter)?
Any rules I should pass on, such as no vaping while driving or something?

Your input much valued kind people :)

Vaping is new in Canada but not illegal.
I vaped in the Casino, Hotel some Restaurants but be prepared to attract a lot of attention.
I don't see why customs would confiscate his gear but I didnt had any experience at airport yet.
Shops are almost innexistent, there are lots of good providers online tough.
For Toronto canvape.com has a point of sale in a flea market but their online shop is very well stocked and they ship overnight.
payment is a HUGE problem because almost all vendors ask for bank transfer.
the only one I dealt with who can take orders and aceppt credit cards or even PayPal is electronic-cigz.com.
In Montreal there are a few shops(i heard) and also good sellers like Vapoury.com and vaporium.ca the latter one accepts credit cards but they don't ship very fast. They do have a store in Montreal.

Almost everywhere the smoking is prohibited even in front of some places.

Like I said Vaping is new here and not illegal but I usually ask for permision.

With vaping, I have found permission beforehand IS preferable to forgiveness afterwards.
Where in Canada is your workmate visiting?
As already stated, brick and mortars are few and far between. There is one in Toronto and Canvapes has 5 fleamarket locations that are only open during the weekends. Montreal and Vancouver also have a few.
Equipment should not be a problem but be careful of the amount of juice. Enough for personal use and you should be fine.

I've flown between Canada and the US several times in the last few months. No problems with customs (either way). I put all my stuff in a clear little tackle-box thingy (EVic, spinner batteries, protanks, coils, etc.). I pull the tackle box out of my backpack at security and place it in the plastic bin along with other electronics. I put my e-liquid in the standard zip lock bag they give out -- along with any other liquids.

They have never asked about the e-liquid. They sometimes point to the Evic or the protanks and ask what they are. I say "part of my electronic cigarette." They nod and push the bin into the x-ray machine.

The only problem I've had on planes is leaking tanks and bottles due to the change in air pressure. My best advice is to open your tanks and e-liquid bottles during ascent and descent or you will have a slippery mess when you land.

Finally, it seems washroom smoke detectors on planes will not be set off by vaping -- wouldn't try blowing clouds into the detector, but a quick vape seems fine.

Hope your friend enjoys Toronto (there are few more brick & mortar stores there now).

I have flown a number of times since I started vaping and have found that the easiest way to deal with the air pressure problem is to only carry partial bottles. I don't take any that are more then 2/3 full and while packing, I squeeze out most of the air and then tighten the cap. Never had a leak yet.
I also disassemble devices and remove batteries of all devices being packed. I just keep 1 eGo with a clearo loaded for immediate use and keep that in my shirt pocket. Such a small device does not normally draw much attention.

Thanks for all the further info. I'll check out the links and report back to workmate. I'm sure it'll be a weight off, knowing he doesn't need to go back to anologues while away.

Reverting to cigarettes should not be required. Even in a worse case scenario where your friend's luggage, with all vaping supplies, is lost, I'm sure resupply can happen locally in very short order. Even if it takes more then a few days for that to happen, there are those on this forum who can lend something to get your workmate through.

Yup you don't get many vapors spotted "in the wild" here but its catching on. I'm sure some neighbouly Canadian vapor can help out with juice if customs is a pain but from what I hear they aren't bad.

to date in my city of 300k I haven't seen any.
