Isn't it ironic?

Was just talking to my smoking friend about how e-cigs are less bad for you than real cigs. And though this topic is probably over done, I wanted to have a go at it again.

I sent him links to the info on how e-cigs are less bad than analogs. And eventually (to make a long story short) he says "Why don't you just quit instead of doing something that is less bad?". To which I maturely responded "No U!". :p

I just think that it's funny that someone who wants to quit smoking but can't is trying to tell me not to use an e-cig since it is less bad and telling me to quit cold turkey. :p

Hehe, I love your response!

Heehee yeah. He ignored that and went on to another topics, as often happens in our text messages when he doesn't want to talk about something. ;)

And yes indeed, it's hard to explain to people that you don't want to quit vaping. I had that problem with my grandmother. She expected me to vape for like 6 months then stop cold turkey. And it is hard as hell to explain to a grandmother who is that old that vaping is a way of life for a lot of people, even though some people use it to quit.

My favorite response is "I want to smoke, I just don't like dying"

My Grandfather is the same way. He got excited when I told him I quit smoking, but got just as disappointed when I showed him my 510. Granted, he still let me vape it in his house, but he still thinks it will kill me. He barely agrees that it's not as bad as smoking.

Aaah, I like that response! My friend said earlier that he didn't think smoking glycerine could be good for someone. Feh, I need to bone up on all of my technical stuff again!

Hopefully your grandfather will get used to it. I live with my grandmother, so I have to hear it all of the time. The reason I quit vaping and went back to analogs is because she kept .....ing.

But this time she can ..... till she is blue in the face. When my stuff gets here, I'm not stopping this time!

Wow, that IS ironic.

I can't get over how ridiculous that is. A SMOKER, who knows how tough it is, because he CAN'T quit... is telling you to just quit, rather than vape?

I just... that doesn't... WHAT?

If quitting smoking was easy, there's be no NRT, no Chantix, and no e-cigs in the first place. If it was as simple as "just quitting," this forum would be empty and no one would smoke.

If it were that easy, HE wouldn't smoke.

And whatever time he's wasting by continuing to smoke, because he keeps failing at quitting, is time that's being taken off the end of his life.

Time you're probably not losing - because you vape.

I'd much rather let go of my pride, admit I'm an addict, and vape, than fail at quitting over and over and continue to smoke.

Exactly, and he has tried to quit a few times. His most recent time, the excuse was: "I'm having a hard time getting a good job even though I just got a 4 year degree so I'm still stuck working at this pizza place. This just isn't a good time for me to quit since I'm so aggravated."

And while I see his point, I have known him long enough to know that he is always going to be aggravated about something, he is one of THOSE people. Everyone has known one of THOSE people. No matter what they do, they will find something in their life that isn't good enough and doesn't satisfy them enough to think that they are a success.

Hence why we broke up 4 or 5 years ago but are still best friends. ><

Reading this I realize that I am truly blessed. My friends and family are behind my decision to vape 100%. My sister, a non-smoker, recently told me how proud she was that I wasn't smoking. She went on to say that if the ecig kept me off analogs she was all for it. She lets me use it when we ride together on extended road trips as much as I want. My friends are always encouraging and praise my success often. My smoking friends become more and more interested themselves the longer I'm off analogs. I am very lucky!

I can understand that to a degree. The only way, besides vaping, I could see myself quitting is if I just went to go live in a cave in the middle of the woods for 3 weeks where I could go through the withdrawal and the misery in peace.

I have aborted attempts at quitting, because I couldn't function well enough to keep my job while I was going through withdrawal.

But unfortunately, this isn't a world where you can just disappear for a few weeks unless you've got lots of time and money, which most people don't.

So, that in mind... vaping is how I do it, since I live in a world where I can't do it any other way.

Until he's 60 and retired, he will never be in a situation where he has the head space to quit without having a really hard time keeping his life going. And by that point, it may be too late.

How silly that he would chastise you for choosing a better way.

I know all about THOSE people. I can't stand them, any more. Whine and cry and blame this and blame that.

I'll never forget back in '05 when I was first experimenting with e-cigs. This lady at a convenience store said to me... What if e-cigs aren't safe?? It hit me like that fake "fly back and hit something when you get shot" thing from movies

It's not easy for a woman to make me speechless..

But I'll never forget that

SAFE, what if it's not SAFE
As if cigarettes were just as perfectly natural as adam making love to eve in a garden

PS: Nice face.. Grr! :2cool:

This.

How, exactly, would it be POSSIBLE for e-cigs to be LESS safe than cigarettes?

What if it's not SAFE?

I'm sure it's not as safe as inhaling nothing but pure, clean air, but I can't imagine any way it could be as unsafe as cigarettes.

The other day, I was reading a thread about someone being afraid of getting acrolein from vaping VG. Which, I suppose, is a fair question (although even a 6v mod doesn't get anywhere near hot enough to convert VG into acrolein).

But you know what really DOES have acrolein in it?

Cigarettes.

And people are worried about whether e-cigs are safe? Safe compared to what, exactly?

I can't STAND idiots who will NOT face anything
Everyone around here does that
They'll completely ignore whatever the subject is if they're in the wrong

These bums are the type of person who would burn your house down and then go on a tirade about their eye brows being singed
