Hi

I recently purchased an istick 30w which came with no charger cable. It has a mini USB slot for charging. I connected it with my girlfriends camera cable and a Joytech wall adapter which has the indications: Output 5.0V /500mA and it charged fine. I need my own charging cable though, I noticed my Nokia phone charger is also mini USB but has the indication: Output 5.0V /550mA, would this be safe to use for charging it???

Many thanks!

It's probably fine. I don't know the specs for the 30w, but I have a 50w that charges at 1amp - it will use less but charge slower, so I'm pretty sure your 500ma or 550ma will be fine.

I also saw a guy connect a 50w to a higher amp charger and test it - proving that the 50w istick limited the charge to 1amp no matter how many amps you fed it. What I don't know is if this is true for all isticks, older and newer. I think he had the newest generation.

It will work just fine, just take longer, but they're designed to be charged with a 1amp output. I use the charger that came with my samsung galaxy S3 phone, which has a 1amp output, charges my 50w perfect as well. I tried the charger from my new Galaxy S5 phone, that has a 2amp output, and the mod got a lot hotter so I don't use that one. A 1amp wall wort can be had for $4 to $5 most places.
