i've seen videos of people getting massive (kinda) clouds with the pico, using the same tank it came with. i'm not getting half as much. what would i have to change to get better clouds?

there are many many things that affect cloud production; vg/pg ratio of the juice, coil resistance, applied wattage, strength of draw, airflow used. and perception of cloud size is oddly easily skewed, the right lighting makes a small cloud look larger, amount of zoom in the video too.
the main questions are i would ask are; what juice are you using, what resistance/wattage are you using, and how open is the airflow/how hard a draw are you using. secondary question, which may override the previous question, is the setup currently satisfying your cravings and are you happy with what you have right now? because if it scratches the itch and you like the taste, who cares how much fog you can produce.

high VG ratio. low ohm coil. bump up the watts (also, maybe, pump up the volume ).
only dense vapour allowed me to kick smoking. find it much more satisfying but i realise that's purely subjective.

Sometimes you can contact the people who made the video and ask them exactly what their setup is (hardware and juice) and settings are. I too think lighting, camera angle and maybe other stuff affects cloud perception. And I suspect some vape only temporarily at higher wattage/voltage for video purposes and to impress (some people) and may not sustain those settings throughout the day.
There are several versions of the pico and the latest is designed to be a bit sub0hm, so first thing I would check would be is it the same version. Not trying to offend, just ruling out one thing along the way.
I am in agreement that there are many things that can change vapor production, including juice ratio, wattage, type of coil, airflow, etc. You can certainly adapt those things until you find a satisfying vape, although I don't think I'd ever call the pico a cloud producing monster, like some, but you can try some adjustments.

I know my friends Pico I have to increase the power 5-10w compared to my mods with the same tanks. Not sure if the Pico firmware he ran was a little off or my mods just don't down scale very well. Reviewers do tend to push coils past their max wattage though... they don't care if it burns out in 3 days because they only use it a few hours if that usually.
That's a good point. Even I notice the Pico runs a little cold (as we say).
This. A lot of people--myself included--get toe-curling good vapes somewhere between 25 and 45 Watts. Thick, rich, flavorful vapor that may never win a cloud comp but are more than enough to make me forget that I wanted a cigarette.
This is all very subjective, but I want to taste every molecule of flavor and at some point the cloud can get to be too much for that.

Hi and welcome. As everyone has said, we need more info to help you much. I happen to be one of the people who gets good vape under 50 watts, and the Pico will do that easily. I often impress people with a fair size cloud on a one-battery machine-- usually a mechanical mod-- but I am a coil builder and can optimize for that. Really, though, it depends on what you want cloud for: if you need it to help you stay off the sticks, fine. We may be able to help. But if you want to blow big vapor to impress onlookers, you're probably holding the wrong gear.

Using my Pico with the Melo III Mini at 25W right now and if I blow a cloud toward my monitor I never to wait to see the screen.
