You said "Hollywood Casino". Is that a casino in Hollywood or is it Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas? Because according to the poker room supervisor in the casino where I work, vaping is allowed. vaping has been allowed since the World series of poker ruled it isn't smoking. They only require you be respectful of others. If players complain, the poker room supervisor has the right to ask you to get up from the table.

I have been in the casino business for well over 20 years, in tribal and non-tribal venues. Typically, I've seen casinos restrict vaping to the same areas that smoking is. I have found 2 exceptions to this: both being poker rooms belonging to competitors of the casino I work at. I am a die-hard poker player and drive 24 miles to play at a competitor's and vape while I play, instead of driving 2.3 miles to my own. Give it time for people to learn. They'll come around.

Good for you ... I don't vape that much in public, although I have had one or two strange encounters while doing so. Once upon time it seemed like the growth of the vaping community was a good thing, but lately ... not so much. I feel like the world at large was a bit more open to vaping before it became the " new it thing". I can remember two years ago sharing stories with fellow vapers who generally felt it was easy to explain to the bar or restaurant manager what an e cigarette was, and to get their ok to use them inside those establishments.

I feel like like e cigs have become like the iPhone, everybody wants one, especially the young'ens, and this new found popularity of e cigs is scaring non vapers because now it seems like we are everywhere, and they are being surrounded by something they do not understand ... and people tend to reject what they don't understand.

Not just that but since it's the it thing now and every one has one unlike the old days where say a bar owner approaches you about not smoking in the bar until you politely explained what you were doing. I am sure many new vapors just snap at said bar owner instead of informing him because to many people feel entitled now days

Spokane, WA is a long way from Maine, but Northern Quest Resort and Casino allows vaping and smoking in almost all areas. The only areas it is not allowed are the family friendly and non-smoking areas; which are a very small percentage of the extremely large resort. Couple that with a AAA 4 Diamond service rating, and I think a road trip might just be in order!:vapor:

At my casino, smoking cigarettes and vaping is allowed in all common areas except the restaurants, shops, showrooms and the poker room. Cigars and pipes are restricted to the cigar bar or outside. Restrictions similar to what I experience in Las Vegas. I haven't vaped in Vegas though, so I may see some differences on my next trip.

I'm playing poker and the pit boss comes over and tells me I can't vape there (the FDA hasn't approved it)
well they may not know this but it cost them big time I will not play there I will not send my clients there or my suppliers .
i book ten to fifteen rooms a month there that ends now. God only knows how much they spend there well no more.

See below:

I fully support your decision and echo all the statements made so far.

I'd also like to suggest that you send the General Manager a well thought-out and professional letter explaining the reason for your decision to not support their business (and telling others not to as well). Without it, they will probably not even notice that you're no longer doing business with them, or if they do, will not know or care about the reason why. The more people do this, perhaps the more it will sink in that we are NOT smoking or otherwise creating any health risks for their other customers.

Just my .02.

This^^^^^^. If they haven't been informed of your decision, they will likely never know that they have lost some major revenue.

I'm not familiar with the gambling culture. But I think every business owner should have the right to make the rules for his/her business. Then the customer has the right to either abide by those rules or take their business elsewhere.

In this particular case, I think it would be helpful if you let the casino know *why* you will no longer be patronizing them. No need to be confrontational or anything like that, a simple explanation is sufficient.

Right, wrong, or indifferent I commend you for picking a side and standing buy it. To many people these days just go with the flow and dont stand up for their convictions. I tip my hat to you sir!

Does anyone know if they object to it because of "devices" being used ......aka they don't like (or didn't used to like) devices that were computerized...(could be used to track cards).

Of course, that's a long shot.....
I was just wondering if the FDA thing was an excuse because they didn't want to mention the other.

Maybe cig-a-likes would be OK, but complex looking boxes.....banned?

Hmmm.

I (again) admit that's a long shot.

When my State initiated a Statewide ban on smoking, all Casinos reported a drop in revenue, especially those that are located near the State line with Casinos that do allow smoking within a 10 minute drive .. not long after, legislation began a discussion phase on "exceptions" which has still not gained any traction ..

I don't know if there is a higher percentage of smokers that Gamble, but I'd suspect there are ..

I have also been politely asked to not use a PV, with the logic that it is confusing to the other patrons in that it appears to be smoking ..

Poker rooms attract certain types of people. Lots of A-types, people with obsessive/compulsive disorder, and people that like to take advantage of situations and opportunities for their own benefit. I should know, I'm one of them. These are the same people that got smoking banned from most poker rooms in the mid 90's, even when nation-wide statistics showed that far over half the people in casinos and poker rooms smoked. If I recall, it was about 75% positive for smoking back then. Places that have compulsive activities attract compulsive people. The OCD and advantage players in poker rooms got smoking banned in there more to upset and throw smoking players off their game than for health reasons. Now that the number of smokers (even in casinos) is on the decline, it's natural for the ban to stay intact and have the non-smoking majority see the PV as another smoking device and lump it on.

I've gone to Vegas a few times since I started vaping, and met a number of pit bosses that vape.
So do some of the dealers I have come across.

On the other hand, the poker room seems to often be the exception.
Apparently the smokers are not happy that they can not smoke while we vape.

Personally I think it has more to do with the increasing number of mass media attacks spreading lies and misinformation.
And I doubt that the new breed of Cloud Chasers is helping all that much if they do so in public.
