Hi guys. I'm not sure if this is normal but I haven't had it happen with any other mod so here goes....

My iTaste 134 arrived today and it seems to make a weird buzzing sound every time I press the button to vape. It's not very loud but in a quiet environment it's pretty annoying and I'm wondering if this is normal among certain mods.
Any info on this would be well appreciated before I contact the supplier and look like a complete dummy.

I imagine it's the sound of it re-loading....contact the vendor- that's what they are there for......

MHTSOS,

The mod uses approx. 30 Hz pulse width modulation. This is the origin of the buzzing that you hear. But you can't hear 30 Hz so what typically goes on is something in the unit or the atomizer is loose and vibrates in some multiple of the PWM circuit frequency. Before you call the vendor you can determine if it is the 134 or your atomizer by swapping to a different atomizer (clearomizer, carto, whatever). If you change the atomizer and the sound goes away then there is nothing wrong with your 134 but something loose in the atomizer.

People use mods producing the buzz and the unit will work fine but considering that it is new and not exactly cheap I would call the vender and see what they have to say.

PS - metallic wicks can be the item that is in harmonic resonance with the frequency of the PWM circuit so if you use one of those try an atomizer with a glass/ceramic wick. Also you might notice the buzz becomes more intense the higher you turn up the power.

Switching regulator "pulsing" to control the wattage its feeding to the coils
aka the "rattle snake" sound you hear

Absolutely perfectly normal

How does a switching regulator control its output?

Switching regulators require a means to vary their output voltage in response to input and output voltage changes. One approach is to use PWM that controls the input to the associated power switch, which controls its on and off time (duty cycle). In operation, the regulator's filtered output voltage is fed back to the PWM controller to control the duty cycle. If the filtered output tends to change, the feedback applied to the PWM controller varies the duty cycle to maintain a constant output voltage.

Switching voltage regulators work by periodically storing energy in the magnetic field of an inductor, and then discharging the energy into the load. This is a reversible process, so there is no essential energy loss, as there is in the familiar linear voltage regulator or dropping resistor. They can transform the input voltage into a higher, lower or negative output voltage. There is a large selection of integrated circuits containing a switch and the circuits used to control it, which make the construction of a switching regulator very easy.
If you're not electronics savy...lets just say it's doing what it supposed to be doing...if you REAAAALY want to learn! (warning...may cause brain 'splosion!)

Warhawk and Holman thank you both for that info. You're perfectly right it does get louder the higher I go and although I only use genies, it still does it with my dripper which I have just for sampling.
I leave it be for now and bear it. If it dies it will make a nice desk piece. I don't think I'll really be taking it outside either way...hehe

TheSystemHasFailed,

What did I say that doesn't ring true?

Alluding to physical vibration/movement. I know what you MEAN, like a tuning fork on a bridge at the right harmonic frequency will get it moving and drop it.
It's the JUICE having the 33 sent at it and it's comes off as a rattle. I assure you, the crap wires they use couldn't handle movement.

"drop a bridge"... ;) Yes that is the principle I was referring to just not quite that violent.

You are probably right that he/she is describing the fluid sizzle (rattle snake) but I think I went off on the description "Buzz".

I have read one or two other post were people described it as a "Buzz" and that the buzz was loud enough to bother people around them. I have had some juices that sizzle more than others but never anything that I would describe as a "Buzz".

There are some transformer coils used in the DC to DC converter part of the mod and if they are not mounted down tight (glued in place) they can rattle/buzz pretty loud, at least until they fatigue and break the wires connecting them to the circuit board.

PS - I am an Electrical Engineer and we are renowned for skipping over the obvious and going for the most confusing and esoteric solutions.
