A noob query here, which I hope somebody can help me with or point me in the right direction.

I've bought an Igo-W7 for first go at rebuilding. I made a 12-wrap (not too pretty) single coil with Vapinology G-plat 26 wire. Put it on MVP, and ohm reader showed 2.4 ohms. Gave it a short dry burn to get rid of any factory grease and confirm it was working. (Got so excited, missed the next step of heating the coil, squeezing it for hot-spots, etc - must try harder). Then wicked with cotton and added e-juice. Now it's reading 1.2 ohms. Took a big draw, and learned the difference between a dripper and a clearo. Took a few more draws. When my eyes stopped watering, checked the ohm reader: 0.8 ohms. Left it sitting a couple of hours, went to fire it up - nothing doing, ohm reader says 0.7 ohms (which I know is below the level at which the MVP will work).

I'm not sure what's happening here. Could it be a short? Or does the e-juice and cotton have an effect on conductivity / resistance? Aside from a neater coil, and doing the heat-n-squeeze thing, I'm not sure what I need to do different next time. I'm aiming for around 1.2-1.5 ohms, which I understand keeps the MVP happy.
Post pictures. Check the screws for tightness. I've never had a W7 but it doesn't look very beginner friendly. Make sure your coil isn't touching anywhere but the posts. Pull the wick out and dry fire it. After you get it dry, you should see how it burns. Maybe try rebuilding the coil, pretty like, and all tight and together. I've never had a wick change the resistance of my coils, and it never should. Loose screws will cause jumps in resistance, and so would a short, if you introduced it after wicking it.

Well, this has been a learning experience...!

I took the head off the W7 - discovered the centre post screw had come loose ("come loose" in the same sense as, "my clothes shrink in the wardrobe"). So, probably a short, or series of shorts. Poked and fiddled, but ohm meter not budging from 0.7. Cut off another six inches of the G plat (I think it may just be the manufacturer's name for it), made new coil, fitted - again, 0.7.

It was at this point, dear reader, I remembered the W7's fancy box had a rear compartment. And yes, therein was a wire; a 3 or 4 wrap creation of a thinner gauge than the wire I bought along with the W7. Fitted, read 1.6 ohms; wicked and e-juiced, read 1.4 ohms. It fires! This time, in my excitement, I put the top cap on and forgot the AFC; so again took a draw and experienced tears before bedtime.

Moral: RTM. And get an ohm meter.

Thank you for your help - without a point in the right direction it might have taken me a long time to get this thing working!

And yes indeed, placing the device in your mouth and setting it on fire is a much easier arrangement!

I get it when people don't want all this complexity and just want something as simple to operate as a packet of cigarettes. Imho that'd be some lr 510 attys and a drip tip. We don't all wick and wire (well, yes, I do, but not all the time. Sometimes readymade is easier.) :)

and that's why I love my vision eternity :) it's a dripper or can be reassembled to a tank and can buy premade coils for it ;) plus it holds 15 - 30 drops at a time ;)

GPlat coil wire by Vapinology is a unique blend of metals that heat up differently than Kanthal A-1.
This is truly unique wire that allows you to build larger coils with lower resistance.

well now, that is a wire of a different animal
and very costly - 15’ @$23 ! compared to 250’ of Kanthal A1 26ga ($18)

not sure, other than to wrap-n-test, as to what one would enter in a calculator to est wraps ?
have to throw a guess, in the box came, 32ga Kanthal A-1

but at least you’re up and running, and what better way to learn
than trial and error…

good luck, and keep us informed

Ok guys, I know this is kind of cross-threading lol... But I ordered a smoketech RSST yesterday, not sure if it is going to go on my MVP or on the other half 's SVD (secretly hoping it ends up on mine) , but I realized I don't know a lick about stainless steel wicks, and I am going to be the one doing the rebuilding on it. (even though I still haven't mastered the Nimbus) This is our first Genesis style. I have searched high and low for a good information link, but no dice. Just bits and pieces.... Any suggestions???

So this is my vape life space for diy eliquid, rda rebuilding, and messing around or as the wife says up with my mods to see how they tick, or fix or upgrade or combined into something new.
the shiny sickness has me full on and doesn't seem to be Going away any time soon but I've moved to a box mods phase and was wondering if anyone will recommend a good one for around $100? I have have 2 of itastes mvp2 and a VTR on the way. I've seen a chana dna 30 hana clone for $79.99 at Vapor Co ( www.shopvaporco.com ) that looks nice but don't know if that's a good price or if it will be as good as the orginal. Thanks for your time in advance
ok so this cross threading but I posted above in picture of Ur set up but this is my main thread so want to ask here to about another box mod for around $ 100? The dna 30 or like chip is pulling at me to buy it. Any recommendations?

There is an RDA subform down below that has threads about genesis atomizers. Best bet is search RSST on youtube. I doubt that you can pulse the coil on an MVP or SVD. I use cotton or rayon. Much easier and still makes vapor.

Lower than 1.2 doesn't do you much good on the MVP. 1.8 probably gives you the most flexibility.
Thanks, I'm Sorry, I didn't explain that very well. I meant the lowest I could go w/o much happening is 1.2. I would build around 1.5ish.. Anybody else had experience w/ single coil & what ohms work best?

Well now... that may explain a few things! My recollection is I bought the only wire the vendor had in stock at the time; the blurb said it was special, but I assumed that was marketing hype. I've not bought wire before so didn't realise it was expensive - £5 for 6 feet, I think. Glad I didn't throw away my "dud" coils! Will post back about the wire when I get a proper ohm meter. Glad to get a few toots from it, heh heh, sub-ohming by mistake on first attempt with MVP, how embarrassing. And made noob error of using RDA to sample a 30mg juice - certainly woke me up... Right, I'm off now to find some 32ga Kanthal - enough excitement for one day!

Oh, thank you for the UK links! I got the Igo and wire from P-Vaper in UK. Vapinology has a good reputation, so I had no hesitation in buying it. (Actually it was easier to work with than the stuff in the Igo box, kept its shape better.) I think Kanthal is more suited to my level of ability, though! Inadvertent cloud-chasing with 30mg is not to be advised - it's 1:19am here in Scotland, and I'm still wide awake!

Hmmm now I got find box 2 c. Is there a different in the i 30's? Except I think the xi is a larger tank. Right?

Lookin' at em a little harder... :) Looks like you have a 30s. The 30 x.I is a bottom coil. The 30s has that shroud around it and almost looks like a cartomizer. The 30 has no shroud.
