Ithaka cleaning

Hi all,

Anyone has any tips on how to effectively clean Ithaka, especially the ceramic which seems to turn black over time?

just rinse it under warm water , as for ceramic i would boil it although some will recommend torching it ( carful if you torch it because it will shatter if it is subjected to thermal shock ie not letting it cool evenly by eg letting it touch something cooler like putting it down on a counter top ) .
that being said i wouldn't bother to much with ceramic unless it was causing a funny taste .

Torch ceramic I do it all time. After torching leave it on napkin and blow before leaving on napkin. let it cool on its own don't quench it water or it will get brittle.

Yeah I torch my ceramic.. I actually keep the wire I use to hold it while I torch on the ceramic while it cools.. and wrap it around something (needle-nose pliers usually) so the ceramic is suspended in the air while it cools. If that makes any sense whatsoever.

Yes , most important though is even temperature drop of the whole ceramic component bish . Also be carful when blowing , a tiny drop of spit could escape your mouth and could cause it to crack .

Oh ....... I torched a new ceramic a few weeks back and dunked it in water. It made a fizzle noise and blew off some steam. I think it's fine though since I'm using it right now and no cracks are evident.

I've got an Ody with a year + 6 month old ceramic still going--maybe I just use light juice. I usually use hot water and a clean towel to dry.

Thanks people. I'll try torching it. My juice is very dark and really gunks up the coil so I can already see the ceramic being really black already after 2 weeks of use.

I had to order a ultrasonic cleaner after watching so many of bish`s videos on youtube, and it works for everything!!!!

For ceramics the best and deepest cleaning is torching. If you do a search I posted over a year ago photos of an Ody ceramic before and after. After torching it turns brilliant white just like new and don't worry about over doing it. Just avoid thermal shock (don't dip it in water after torching)
Best thread/steal cleaning system is ultrasonic with a mixture of hot water,dish washing liquid and vinegar (clear).

personally I use acetone when cleaning things in a ultrasonic bath ( avoid putting anything plastic in acetone , it will dissolve ) although I have never cleaned my gg this way , what are you guy doing to get you ggs so dirty ?
