I just realize that I have this 6v battery hanging around. I used to use it with some dummy batteries I made to power one of my strobes. I have a BE112, two M201's and a few 510 atty's at my disposal. Also, These batteries are extremely inexpensive. I think I paid a bit over $3 for this one. Its 6V 1.3Ah. I've got a pair of 6V 4.5Ah, but those are a bit too big. I can fit this one in my pocket. Compared to a 510 PCCits a little thicker and wider and a bit shorter.

I would really like to make something that was semi portable (good sitting at my desk or driving in the car) that would last a long time, and in lieu of something plugged into my computer.

Is it as easy as running wires to the right places on the atty with an inline momentary switch?? Or, is it a little more complicated than that? Could I utilize an existing 510 battery for the case and switch? Could I attach a female USB socket and use it to also charge batteries or use with different passthroughs rather than making it dedicated to one unit? WWYD?

Well...seeing how I was left to my own devices, mostly, I took a trip to Radio Shack and picked up a 5v regulator and a couple switches. The process I went through was far too involved to be worth explaining, I promise. Long story short, my battery was no good. Not to be deterred, I pulled out one of my larger 4.5Ah 6V batteries and built the ugliest 5v passthrough battery mod anyone has ever seen, again, I promise. I'm using a 510 atty and I'm quite pleased with its performance. Did I mention it's ugly? All in all I don't think it was worth the effort, but what's done is done. This thing is even uglier than the stink eye my wife has been giving me for the past 4 hours. I'll try to get a pic up within the next few days.

:thumbs:OK this thing is so ugly I had to photograph it in 3 separate sections. I think next time I'll buy the parts and ask someone else to do the assembly :D I also want to point out that I'm getting a reading of 4.96V at the atty. Also, all the wires are soldered the tape is mostly to keep the wires secure-ish and provide a line of first defense if something should get yanked too hard.

Here is the battery I ended up using:
