For in a minute...

More of that funky sound they started "not promoting"...I remeber a Relix interview with JG and he said yeah, we try not to do anything with effects or anything to influence the audience.;) Oh no, not us!

Gordo looks like he feels left out...this is another keeper. Much thanks

If my memory serves me correctly, Shakedown Street was actually produced by Lowell George

had to bring it around full circle. it was there and so I went for it.

opinion question...will Phish EVER get to the same status as the Dead? I personally dont think so but I have friends that think that they have already passed the Dead

Hmmm, Phish certainly has it's own legion of followers. I think that legion is dwarfed by the deadheads. Based on phan phollowing no way. In terms of musical prowess the band fall into separate categories. It's sort of like comparing country music to bluegrass. They have the same roots, yet are vastly different. I can't find fault with Phish musically, nor the Dead. But they are different genres (for me). If Phish could ever pull of playing under the Great Pyramid during a full moon I think Phish could start to buy a ticket to get into the Dead's ballpark.

I think that might have just summed it up.

This is a good dialogue. I'll think some more about this and might have some more snarky comments to add down the road. I haven't even brought up phan base yet. There are many variables to your outstanding question cousin!

Way back in fitty-nine, some smartass recording engineer decided to have two tape decks running the same material. He intentionally slowed one down with his finger on the edge (the flange) of the tape reel, then the other. Thus, the effect that makes all of the trippy music "happen" was borndificated...

Here 'tis:
The very first commercial recording with flanging:
