My backstory is a bit different from most since I'm way too young to refer to myself as a "lifetime smoker" without my parents getting in serious trouble or something.

Truth is, I started at 16 because I was a rebellious petulant teenager-type who listened to black metal and did all his own facial piercings. I did not fit in where I lived and went to school and I had no desire to.

Fast forward just about 6 years and um nothing has changed...except I'm not a teenager, I'm a tad less petulant, and I definitely don't smoke like I used to.

I hung out with a great group of friends throughout high school. None of them actually went to my school, mind you, which is probably why we got along so well. But...they all smoked. Almost without exception. Girl I was dating at the time? Yep, her house reeked of unfiltered Camels (dad) and Marlboro silvers (mom). I mean everything...except my family of course. I would leave campus during free time to go smoke. I didn't think it was a problem until I got to college...

At college there was this shop down the street that somehow went way under the radar and sold all sorts of stuff they might not have been allowed to actually sell, but they also had rolling tobacco and since I was running out of money from the 10-15 Camels...then Pall Malls...then Mavericks...at one point 30+ Virginia Slims (really)...started rolling my own and as I could smoke in my attic there, quickly got back up to way over 30 often-unfiltered Drum rolls per day. Cheap but deadly, I'm sure. I even had two cartons of Russian Prima Lux (compare to cheap Parliament) sent to me by a friend who clearly didn't want me to quit. -.-

I left college for health reasons ironically unrelated to my smoking habit in December 2012, and by May 2013 had ordered one of those "starter kits" from a website after finding that their customer support didn't suck and their products were highly-rated. It arrived May 16th. I remember getting home from a long day of work at my awful job, finding it on the counter, and then going outside to smoke my last Camel. Opened up the box and put cartridges together and so on...that was that.

Those were pen-style 808Ds that, while they weren't awful and do still function today, are painfully difficult to get parts for. I bought eGo batteries starting just a couple months ago and now have a bunch of much more effective BCCs, including a dual-coil Innokin 30S. Next target is actual mods and APVs because I'm a techie after all - I'm a musician and a photographer and programmer, but professionally a computer technician, so I love taking things apart and putting them together and making them work better. XD

I sheepishly admit to smoking again recently because I was and am in a group therapy program where non-smokers are a distinct minority and oh how I wish the socialising wasn't such a trigger. :( But hey, that's at most 5 a day, tops, seriously. At home, in the car, etc...smoke-free, vape-only, period. My parents and family are very happy about that too. I have three younger siblings and my parents are medical professionals. While I don't think my father (anesthesiologist) is even aware I use these things, nobody has told me I smell like smoke in a very, very long time.

Oh, I write a lot, just so you know. Sorry if I ramble.

I hope to learn a lot more here, especially about the "next steps up" so to speak, regarding mods, APVs, and really serious vaporisers in general. :D

Welcome to the ECF!

When I decided to quit, I bought my starter kit and had 3 packs of Marlboro Mediums left. I had been a PAD smoker for 38 years. It ended up taking me about 2 weeks to smoke those 3 packs and by the time I got to the last pack, the were really tasting horrid. Especially when compared to all of the flavor goodness I was getting out of my PV.

Some people quit the day that the get their initial gear. Others, like me, wean themselves off of the analogs. Some have had their missteps and have lit up another smoke and then felt guilty and found that they really didn't want that cigarette.

Whatever works for you! Here's to you dropping the analogs completely in your near future. :toast:
