I can't say that she ever has sent that home Grand, thank goodness! My FIL was not Polish so over the years she mostly moved away from the old recipes. I wish I could have met her parents before they passed on. They immigrated and her Mom never learned to speak English. Hubby remembers his gramma from when he was young and altho he never understood a word she said, he says she was the jolliest old soul he ever met :)

By the way, I do think Aligator taste something like chicken if cooked well.

When I first married my husband he still had a lot of "old" Polish greataunts and uncles from both sides of the his family and his grandmother were still alive so I heard lots of Polish conversation. Not that I understood anything unless someone translated for me. Although it didn't take much to figure out when they were swearing (which was often LOL). His grandmother was a sweetheart and lived in Poland until she was 17. Unfortuantely she died before we had children so they never got to know her. We still observe a lot of the old Polish traditions at holidays. My children know a few words of Polish and they've taught them to our grandchildren so the tradition continues of sorts. Ok, since we're all family now I'll let you in on a secret. My last name is "Kielbasa". REALLY !!!!

Really....do you have any relatives in WI. I recently met someone with that last name .....how common can that be.

Not any family that I know of in WI but its a not a common last name so chances are yeah, my hubby probably shares a common family tree somewhere back a hundred years ago or so with the person you met. It really is a small world out there.

My old GF's mom was as army bride. She made the best schnitzel and potato salad I've ever had. Come to think about it, it might be the only schnitzel and potato salad I've ever had. But it sure was goood :)

Too bad it it didn't have any lamb in it. NOW that would be good............ umm Lamb Schnitzel !
