I moved the connector down closer to the bottom of the case & now I can charge the M401 with the lid closed. I can also charge the M401 manual.
Just a note on this. You should make the foam hole a little bigger before charging manuals. They will slide in as is, but it is a tight fit & the buttons on the M401 manuals are very fragile. They will come off. You can easily put them back on, if, you can find them.:) No sense in taking a chance.

i know this is an old thread, but could you explain how you moved the battery connector down towards the bottom of the case? I have both m401and402 batteries, and the same 402/403 pcc. I thought I would just have to deal with it, with the lid not closing while charging the 401.

It's been a while since I did this, but this is what I did.

Take out the foam where you put the batts & carts. There are 2 screws in slots in there, remove them. The bottom will then slide off. Look up in the case & you'll see the connector glued to the case(it is seated in a piece of plastic). Carefully remove the glue then the connector & plastic should be free. Take a 401 battery and screw it into the connector as if you were going to charge it(down through the top of the PCC). This will let you know where the connector should go(make sure you have it deep enough so the lid will close). Once you get it positioned, glue it back in(I used a hot glue gun). Give it plenty of time for the glue to set, then put the bottom back on, put the screws back in, & if you are going to charge manual 401 batteries, make the hole in the foam a little bigger. Make sure you give the glue time to dry before putting it back together! It worked for me until I got a real 401 PCC. Now I am going to use the 402/403 PCCs for something else. :)
Whatever you do, don't pull out the battery/board! That little button is a major bear to get back into place!8-o

Thanx for posting!

This looks like the setup I think I'm looking to assemble. I've not yet tried vaping and have been looking into what equipment to go with. From the rave reviews in this forum, the 510 sounds like a must get, but I also want something that doesn't look so different from a real cig, and I also want to get able to carry whatever ecig(s) I do get in a pack similar in size to a analog cigarette pack.

So I think I'm looking at ordering the following...

* M402 and/or M403 ecig (looks like a real cig)
* 510 ecig (vapes like a real cig smokes)
* M402 PCC (hacked to fit the 510 as described here)
* Maybe a second M402 PCC for the other ecig?
* Enough wall/usb/car chargers to go around.
