I just got a jury duty notice for April and was wondering if anyone had any problems taking their ecigs into the courthouse... past the metal detectors. I was wondering if I should just put it in the basket with my keys and cell phone or leave it in my purse and hope they don't notice it. I will also be carrying my Kindle with me. I just hope they don't forbid me having it.

I hate jury duty! :glare: Anyone have any advice? Please share your experience if any.

Thanks for any and all suggestions/advice.

Can you call the courthouse and ask them what their policy is? You should be able to take the ecig in with you because you should get to go outside to "smoke" on your breaks. I hate jury duty too. Maybe some nicotine gum or lozanges wouldn't hurt.

I know, it is our civic duty but I cannot just sit for hours at a time while they interview people. So hard for me to be trapped inside and no ciggies:) Or I guess that would be vape now.

I thought about calling ahead but what if they said they are not allowed! I would have to think up a way to sneak it in then... Like you said being trapped all day. Nic gum could be a backup plan even though I hate the taste.

Just the thought...! 8-o

Do you have the Volts, the cute little guys? They certainly look like cigs and like I said, you can take a pack of cigs with you so why wouldn't you be able to take the Volt? If you have higher nic juice, put that in the cartos so you get more nic with every puff.

I still have some 24mg juice around. I'm sure I'll need that added jolt too and it would hold me longer. I gave my 78's to my daughter but I could get a couple or three more with the upcoming St. Patty's day sale. Thanks for these suggestions Lizzie!

Yes and it wouldn't be a lie either! Stealth vaping during potty breaks... if I can get them past security that is. Sounds like a plan to me. ;)

If you are ordering anyway, maybe a really light flavored but strong nic juice like watermelon. Something that hasn't got much odor to it.

If I have jury duty anytime soon, I think I’ll take an NJoy King. They look and feel just like a regular cigarette. They’re kind of expensive (about $8.00 each), but they’ve got a lot of nicotine in them and the outside of the carto and the battery end is made of plastic wrapped with paper. I definitely wouldn’t want to use them all the time, but they would be good for that situation.

I'm not familiar with this. Is it disposable and could it get through undetected? I could consider as a backup plan...

Generally speaking, I don't think many people enjoy jury duty, but it has to be done to ensure everyone the right to a trial before their peers. If you were accused, you would probably want the ability to be heard in court. If the other citizens refused their duty, you wouldn't have the ability to exercise your right.

I would think that the metal detectors are going to pick up batteries and cartos. You might as well put them in the basket and explain them if you have to. Check on the rules where you live as to smoking on gov't property (since most places are going to treat vaping exactly the same way). If you are permitted to smoke, it would likely be off the courthouse property during the lunch break. Usually the other breaks are too short to allow leaving the property. Take the nic gum just in case. Maybe you will get lucky and they have a smoking area on the grounds.

Over the years, I've been called for jury duty many times and have also been on a jury for a few trials. The thought to refuse never occurred to me but that doesn't mean I have to like it, which I don't. This will however be the first time since I've switched to vaping and I'm not sure of what to expect. Just wanted to get feedback from others about their experiences and if they could keep their ecigs with them.

I've read on the forums that courthouses do not prohibit people from taking in ecigs, but that could have been any time in the last 2 years. If asked to explain, state that it is a personal vaporizer. If further questioned, tell them it's purpose is as a nicotine delivery device. Avoid the use of "cig" or 'cigarette", if you want to avoid bigotry. I would imagine that any laws will be to prohibit smoking and/or tobacco use. You will be doing neither. I have absolutely no moral qualms or ethical concerns about vaping in a restroom. As long as no one sees the vapor, any scent could just as well be skin or hair care products, or even gum (which would make a fine distraction, should anyone be so socially inept as to mention any smell in a restroom.) A friend recently had jury duty, and was allowed to have her e-tablet.
Do take nic gum. If worst comes to worst, it'll keep you from having a nic-fit.:grr:

As long as I'm allowed to keep them with me, I would have no problems whatsoever with getting a quicky in the restroom. ;)

... And NOBODY better mess with my Kindle either!

I had to go to court on a small claims case, and I took in my e-cig no problem. Ego with spare batteries. I just put it in the "basket" with the cell phone and stuff, the guy looked at it, I explained what it was, he just said ohhh neat! I stealth vaped in the hallway waiting (it wasn't crowded). Had no issues at all.

Good luck!

I don't see why they would have a problem letting it in. It's just another electronic device, like a cell phone. If anything, they may take issue with it being attached to tanks. Maybe some filled cartos instead, to make it look a little less bomb-looking? I would just leave it in my purse. I know they allow laptops, so you shouldn't have any problem with your Kindle - here in SF, they even have free wifi in the waiting room.

I was just in our court house last week. I put mine (78s) in the part of my purse that also houses pens (massive purse - very cluttered) and just sent it through the scanner thing while asking if they wanted my glasses, scarf, shoes and underwire bra to go through also.
tends to distract men if you mention a bra
