Here in Wisconsin we have a Tavern League which has a fair amount of lobbying power. If Wisconsin decides to include the e-cig in it's ban I will make sure the Tavern League is aware of e-cigs and hopefully they will get involved as they and all tavern owners know they are going to lose business. In fact, I think I will talk to a few members before it starts so they have some time ready themselves if it becomes an issue. You would be surprised at the number of tavern owners who don't know what an e-cig is but I bet they would see it as an opportunity to keep some business.

If your state has a Tavern League, make sure they are aware of the e-cig and try to make sure they know how the e-cig can benefit the taverns.

You might try looking for a Bar Owner's Association, a Restaurant Association, something like that. Many such groups complain loudly at attempts to regulate and ban indoor smoking, because of the money they lose when bans happen. They'd probably welcome anything that could help them get smokers to come back and spend money.

this is probably a silly question, but what's a Tavern League? Thanks for contacting the one in Wisconsin- hope they get involved.

I'm sorry CES, I didn't see this until now. I think what we call a Tavern League would be if not the same, very close to what Stephra stated. WI has a pretty strong Tavern League and they fight diligently. They don't win every time but they have lobbied successfully against many things I didn't think they would win. I think it is very important to get these types of organizations involved as it impacts their livelihood.

I've been told our State lobbyists are educating themselves on the e-cig and the tavern owners are being made aware of what e-cigs are.

Does Wisconsin already ban smoking analogs in taverns? If so, don't wait for e-cigs to be on the chopping block. Contact that Tavern League now, set up a meeting and show them how your ecigarette works. Take along a flyer: http://www.casaa.org/files/FAQs sheet(2).pdf

For backup, in case questions are asked about safety, these are good docs to have printed and taken along with you.

Find out how many establishments are members. We might try to get some posters made of the infograph and ask the tavern owners to post them. http://www.casaa.org/files/E-Cigarettes_Petition.pdf
