Cool, that's the conclusion I came to - I was wondering how there was enough room for a 9 wrap microcoil if they can't touch. Thanks for the info, going to try one out...

I would suggest torching your wire if you are using anything above 28g kanthal, it will greatly improve your ability to wrap tight close coils. They don't have to be super close initially, you can pulse the coil on your PV and then take some tweezers and scrunch the coil together.

Update!!!
Cotton yes oh Cotton!!

Plumes 18mg Boba's Bounty
Never tasted so yummy!!

Oddly this one I wrapped around 10 coils.
32 gauge Kanthol 2.8 ohms on the Provari.
Yet 3.7 volts makes her glow nicely.

I have not figured this out.
I'm guessing its because of the coils touching?
If anyone can elaborate on this. Would be very helpful.

Thnx in advance.

29g kanthal at 10 wraps I get 1.5-1.8 ohms and run it at 10 watts. I have been spoiled by vw and don't mess a lot with vv. I am not sure why running lower volts on micros works best but I have the same experience.

Thanks for all the great replies everyone!! :D
Well my 1st microcoil build did start working a little bit better than I first mentioned.. I found out with the microcoil, I can crank my wattage up to like 8.5watts on my protank!! I couldn't turn my wattage up this high on any other device without it tasting burnt before, not even on my Protank's stock-coils before. I usually vaped around 5.8-7watts (usually right @ 6.5w). So yeah, that really kicked up the flavor and vapor!!
..... And I can't believe it, but I found exactly what I need for my next build around my house - a 1/16 drill bit (only little size 1 I had!!) and cotton q-tips!! So in an hour or 2 I'll attempt more Microcoil rebuilds with these great new tools I needed.. I can't wait to try vaping on Cotton-wick for the first time!!! Very excited!!
:vapor:
One thing I noticed though (as I mentioned earlier), is my 1st MicroCoil showing fluctuating ohms (Ω, resistance) on my eVic.. When I first checked it it was 2.3Ω,, Than after I filled up my PT and started using it, it would start bouncing around from like 2.9, even 0.8 once, than even went up to 4.5 and 9.8Ω!! At one point, it did stay at 2.4Ω or 2.6Ω for awhile and vape decent, but it's usually changing resistance, all over the place, whenever I plug it on.. Sometimes giving me an "Atomizer Short" Message if the ohms are too low or high, and not even letting me take a vape.

I'm actually a bit surprised my 1st MC-build is acting so weird, it really did look pretty perfect for my 1st attempt.. Even, tightly wrapped coils, no spaces between them; it looked good.. I'll take a pic of it so you guys can see.. Oh well, time for some more practice, and now I can wrap around my 1/16 drill bit and vape on some cotton for the first time!! Excited!!
.. Thanks again everyone, keep the feedback coming!

So yeah, for example, I'm vaping my 1st microcoil build and my eVic says it's 4.9Ω (at least for now).. So I'm vaping at 5.1watts right now, as high as my eVic will go with this resistance (5volts).. I don't know if I mentioned before, but I used 30gauge Kanthal for this 1st build, I'll try 32g this next time, and hopefully wrapping on the 1/16 drill bit this time and using cotton will help a lot!! Thanx again!

Mdub, have you checked to make sure your terminal screws are tight? That is usually the culprit in ohm fluctuations or the wire got sheared by overtightening.

I recommend rather than going down to 32, step up to 27 ga or 26 ga. The thicker wire is much easier to wrap and will give you lower resistance. That coil in my pic above is 27 ga kanthal A1 - 14 wraps around a 17 ga needle and its only 1.26 ohms. It vapes amazingly brother :)

Thanks super_drifter and everyone else!! Drifter, terminal screws?? Are those on an RBA? ... Cause I haven't gotten that far yet, I'm only rebuilding for my Protank right now... I plan to get into RBA rebuilds and such soon though, this will be good practice. And I only have 30 and 32g Kanthal to work with right now. About to rebuild another for my Protank! Thanks again everyone

M dub can you get a pic of that coil installed, just wash it with water so we can see it, sounds like your coil is touching the top cap metal or the sides and shorting out maybe. Coil may be too high.

(One thing that I do is use a needle to make small spaces across the top of the coil. The bottoms are still touching. I don't know just what I do.)

Micro Coil on my Kafun 3.1

32 gauge kanthol.
8 wraps. 2.0 Ohms.
CVS sterile Rolled Cotton.

First off,
A normal built sylica wick in this is amazing.
Flavor will exceed your expectations.
The Kayfun is not over rated by any means.

With that being said. OMG!!!!
Plumes of Vapor :D
Way Way Way more flavor!!!

I honestly believe in my opinion.
This has improved something that
was already very impressive.

Thought I would share.
Now go micro your Kayfun's :D

Make sure you snip the wire legs off flush with the grommet, it will cause shorts. Also double check that your coil isn't coming in contact with the inside of the head.

Before, I usually vaped around 5.8-7watts (usually right @ 6.5w). So yeah, that really kicked up the flavor and vapor!!
:vapor:

So after I unscrewed the coil from my protank base and re-screwed it, the ohms haven't been going crazy anymore. Now my 1st microcoil build has been staying steady at 2.4Ω, like it should - and has been vaping at a champ!! It's great to finally be able to turn up the wattage with my MC!!
..... It's been giving me clouds of vapor and great flavor, been vaping around 7-8.5watts on the 2.4Ω MC, with about 4mm of Silica.. When using my Protank before (with stock 2.5Ω coils), I always vaped around 5.5-6.6watts, and it would taste burnt over 7w, now I can go up to 9w without it tasting burnt! My Protank worked better than ever, throughout the entire tank!! It did turn my juice real dark towards the end though, so I'll probably vape @ a lower wattage next time..

Sorry, haven't found my digicam to take pics yet, or gotten around to building my 2nd Microcoil - this time with cotton (q-tips) for wick!! And this time I have the 1/16" drill bit to wrap around, as I've seen suggested.. I think I mentioned I used 30gauge Kanthal on my 1st MC, but it might've been 32g, I really don't remember. This time I'll use my 30g.. So the cotton (and 1/16th wrap) won't leak on my protank will it??

Thanks again everyone for all your help! I saw in the main Microcoil thread, that somebody put a link in it for my thread here; that was awesome of you!!

Have all my tools & supplies ready, about to do my 2nd MC build right now for my Protank - and hoping it's better than my 1st!! Can't wait to try cotton as wick this time (for the first time), I've only heard great things about vaping on cotton.. And btw I always torch my wire with a lighter so it glows red, before I start wrapping. :)

I don't remember if I used 30g or 32gauge kanthal last time, but I'm going to use 30g this time, using the 1/16 drill bit this time also, most likely 10 wraps - I got 2.4Ω on my 1st silica build and wanna try a bit lower resistance this time.. would lower Ωs work better on the microcoil with my protank/evic?? Here we go!!

I just received a Kayfun Mini. Good grief! I have had to put the thing down a few times because of flavor overload... No joke. It can get a bit intense.

Can you post a pic of the way you place the cotton into the sides. I want to try a microcoil in this, but I am concerned about blocking the flow from the channels.

Just built my 2nd MC!! :D
.. It was a bit more difficult this time but it seems to have come out better than my 1st, I got some good pics of both microcoils that I built and will post in a bit (wow, this digi cam's micro mode is gooood!)..

It was a bit hard to wrap around the 1/16th drill bit and keep the coils tight and even, and it seems like an awful small amount of cotton to slide through that tiny hole.. Since this is for my Protank, should I put more cotton on top as a flavor wick?? I couldn't fit a lot through the tiny hole

EDIT: about 10wraps (I'll have to look at the pics to see exactly how many wraps, can't see with my own eyes) of 30G Kanthal wire (pre-torched), coming in at 2.0Ω exactly!! Can't wait to fire this up!! Gonna let the cotton soak now and hope my protank doesn't leak
:D
