so, I have an IJoy captain PD270 mod with a Vapito Paragon tank, some varying batteries (Samsung, IJoy and Toshiba) and a Nitecore I4 charger. im pretty happy with it so far and was just wondering if there is a whole world out there im missing out on due to the level of my gear? I ask it like this because i have experience in several other hobbies and people ive known thought they were doing pretty good when they had some pretty garbage stuff. I, by no means want to but the Pagani of the vaping world, but dont want the 1981 tercel 5 door liftback either :)

I don't have any of the hardware you mentioned, but someone will come along and discuss it with you. I'm posting to bump the thread and keep it alive.

The Nitecore i4 is a good charger. There are many more brands and models, but most basic features are similar across charger brands.

Mooch is the local battery expert.

You chose to place your questions in the Battery and Charger sub-forum, so I'm thinking your main concern is seeking batteries and charger opinions.

Gear wise, you seem to have good, mid-level quality gear. If you're pretty happy with it, I wouldn't sweat much that you need to get better. You do have a backup setup though, right? We all need a backup.

I'm a firm believer that the most important items in your setup are the batteries. Both for performance and safety. As @DaveP said, most people on this forum follow Battery Mooch's advice. Choose batteries for a regulated mod based on the wattage setting you use. You weren't specific on which battery models that you use or what wattage setting you use. That's important to know because their specifications can vary greatly by battery model.

Samsung makes prime quality batteries. The IJoy and Toshiba brands I imagine are "re-wrapped" brands; neither are on Mooch's recommended battery list above.

The Nitecore i4 is a decent, entry level, basic charger. No bells or whistles. I had one at one time and it was a slow charger. I upgraded to an Xtar VP4 that has a better screen and faster charging. I'm happier with the Xtar.

I'm not familiar with either your battery device or your juice attachment. IMO, the juice attachment is more important than the mod. The tank and its coils are what ultimately make the flavor and the vapor and therefore your satisfaction with your vape. The battery device just supplies power to the tank. It's a major plus if the mod feels comfortable in your hand while using it.

Concerning your tank, I did look for a review on You Tube by one of my favorite reviewers. The machine threading left something to be desired, but otherwise no real cons.

right on man, thank you very much! lots of great info here, but ill have to explore it further when im at home, currently at work. From what i can see, that is exactly the tank i have, and i will say the only thing that bugs me about it the the machining of the threads for the lid. I have changed the coil in it a few times because of dumb mistakes leading me to burn the other ones. I will definitely compare the batteries i have with the ones in the list you posted, and i appreciate the info! I usually vape on juices from Occoltus, usually one called "Bones". Its nice and light, and i like the mellowness of the flavor. Ive also vaped their "Opus Dei" which i also like from time to time with its citrus notes. When you say "Juice attachment", are you referring to the tank?

oh, what is the difference between a "tech mod" and the mod type i have?
I'm not familiar with the term "tech mod".

Unless tech mod means a regulated mod (with an electronic chip and including variable wattage). A non-tech mod might imply a mechanical mod - just a box or tube with a firing button and a 510 connector to attach the atomizer. No electronics and no variable wattage or protection circuitry.

wow, you guys are responsive!! Thanks for all the input! you guys gave me stuff to check out for sure!!

You mean “mech mod”?
You could think of a mech mod as a fully manual mod. Mech mods are basically like flashlights. There’s no electronics at all, generally. Sometimes there’s a fuse. They vape a bit differently, which some like and some don’t. They’re a lot simpler which can make them a lot more rugged and long lasting. The problem is if you don’t set them up exactly right you can have really serious problems, and because there are no safeties you have to do all the stuff the electronics do yourself which requires attention. Fail once and the results can potentially be quite bad.

Mech mods came about some years ago when batteries were less dangerous than they are now. Newer mechs have design changes to help mitigate issues with the more energetic new batteries, but old mechs were designed for the older safer batteries and often don’t have these features. A new battery in an old mech will work fine as long as you don’t abuse the battery ever. Do though, and the results can be explosive.

I got stupid (got? Always was?) and had two old mechs with the old style safer batteries blow in my pocket back in the day. Got away with a bit of heat rash and two pairs of jeans with wrecked pockets. If those were new batteries though I’d still have scars. Or possibly a grave stone.

something like this, i think. We have a 17 yr old who vapes (i know, i know) and he talks about tech mods every so often as being the mods that the serious vapers have

Links don’t work for some reason.

I just googled “tech mod” and every single one seems to be a VV mod. Apparently “tech mod” just means standard old regulated. Could be wrong though.
It’s possible they’re talking about protected mech mods. This would be stuff like the noisy cricket v2 which is a mech but with safety circuitry added. Mech style vape and you still have to know how to build a mech, but reduced though not completely eliminated chance of bad things. If you screw up with one of those AND the electronics catch it the thing will simply not function.

just wondering if there is a whole world out there im missing out on due to the level of my gear?

maybe lots of subtle differences?

as mentioned above, dicodes do temperature control like no one else. The boards also output a much higher frequency than anything, simulating a mech mod draw in smoothness

i don't like them though, since their battery saving is a bit over the top. This means, if it sits with no use for an hour, there is an 0.6 second delay the first fire to wake it up. Really infuriating

evolv boards are good. Accurate enough. I prefer the older non coloured versions to the new Colour boards, for similar reasons dislike dicodes

some boards delay all the time

the finish on high end mods can be nicer. But not always. Always get community feedback before investing

Rev-Tech is just the brand name of the mod in your link; nothing special about it except for the fancy screen display.

Considering your son's age, I'm guessing he meant "mech mod" and you just misunderstood him. That's what a lot of the cloud chasers of his generation are probably using. I sincerely hope he knows what he is doing if he's using a mech. I suggest reading the above link on mech mods.

Regardless of what type mod you use, always keep your batteries in a plastic case when they’re out of the mod. And turn the mod off when you put it in your pocket.

yeah, ive been seeing some of the perils of trying to chase the big clouds here. He always has me try the flavors he is whipping up. Oh, i guess its a good thing to mention that he bought a VERY large amount of raw vg and pg along with a ton of flavors. He also got some nicotine, but we took that to the local waste disposal area as we deemed to to be hazardous. Of course, he is always a step or 3 ahead of me, hence the reason why he keeps getting new mods when we confiscate the previous ones, and as he approaches 18, there isnt much we can really do. At least it seems that he isnt using any nic in his mixes, and no other oil extracts, if ya know what i mean. He seems fearful of the mech mods, and it sounds like his fear is justified without the required knowledge before messing with one. You guy really need to know how much i appreciate all this input. Im a quick electrical learner and have a stroied history in the 12v realm and have been a homeowner and DIY ninja for all things it seems and have been successful with all my attempted feats, so im sure i can figure all this out, im just dipping my toe in the pool for the first time really and appreciate your patience with all my likely dumb questions

what sites do you guys use to order your mods from? ive been browsing on element vapes and it looks legit, but any other suggestions?

I’ve bought from element vape, my freedom smokes, direct vapor, vapor dna, fasttech, vapor range, eight vape. Depends what I want and how fast I want it.

I hate to say this and potentially claim another victim, but check out the shinyitis thread. It’s one of the four most dangerous threads for me (financially speaking) but we are all about good vapes and we link to where we bought it, when possible.
