Look. We've had posts about exploding stacked batteries before. We've said only use protected batteries... or a mod with a protection circuit.

Since you asked about stacking them and using a resistor to get 5 volts... you haven't read enough about modding nor batteries.

2 14500's are about $10.00 - $15.00 USD. Get them, a charger, and a REGULATOR... and build a nice safe box mod. Or get two PROTECTED 18650's or some IMR batteries. Don't skip the protection circuit. And I wouldn't use old batteries either. And I'm broke. So.... be safe dude.

For the discharging, when i raced i did'n race until my batts were fully discharged, do i had an bulb discharger to discharge. I also made an discharging device which automatically discharged through 0.9V per cell. To keep batts balanced and in shape. I must say it worked pretty well.

I will do everything safe, but this is just for testing at higher voltage, don't even know if i like it..
I think i go for the 3/4 NiMH mod, i will only use AA types, have plenty of them :)

My understanding is that there is no reason to discharge a lithium battery they don't have a memory. When stacking you do need to charge them to the same voltage. I'm not a battery expert so I was wondering what the reason for it was.
What voltage do you discharge them to?
