Just curious... Why "e-cigarette" in the title?

e-check is analogous to banking... e-cigarette is an oxymoron.
Nope....Larger half, deafening silence, Microsoft works, jumbo shrimp......these are oxymorons. E-Cigarette is a thing. Get over it....there's real world problems that need your attention.

OMG, if Disney starts debating Winston Churchill, I am going to pay attention to this thread with extra care! I could imagine some wonderful dialogues.

Snow White Witch: "If you were my husband, I'd poison your apple"
Churchill: "If you were my wife, I'd eat it."

Saying something is an oxymoron doesn't mean much, given that it's a name. I think you'd find oxymorons sprinkled rather liberally through names and definitions. "Bounty, the quicker picker upper" for example. Paper towels cannot actually PICK THINGS UP.

Calling a "fact" an oxymoron is quite different than calling a commonly known "name" an oxymoron, as it's a) already established b) so what? What exactly is wrong with it? It's not an oxymoron as it has a "set" of items that fall under that "name/category".

Also, I don't see how an electronic-cigarette is actually an oxymoron. The name arose during a time where those involved were seeking a name that would describe a set of items that were being used in the place of cigarettes, via the use of electronic methods that avoided combustion.

When Chantix first came out, my pdoc told me I'd be better off with those prescription "inhalers" that were too expensive for me to try, but I wanted to. He also told me that back in the 60s, the tobacco industry was realizing all their "smoking is safe" business was going to fail, and that they were looking at non combustible methods, including rudimentary versions of an "electronic cigarette" but that they also feared for their "addicted" base, and hence, continued the way of combustion. I bet they are sorry now.

But my point is, if cigarette MAKERS where considering non-combustion methods way back then, under what circumstances is it NECESSARY to so sharply differentiate between the two methods, and take issue with the word "electronic cigarette." That is what it IS by definition, and no matter how hard you TRY to make things "different" now, that ship has long sailed.

I like "E-cigarette." I still feel it is more user friendly to older smokers who may like the idea of switching to something "like" a cigarette. The kiddos and cloud chasers are more than able to fend for themselves. You'd be shocked (as I long time member, I think) to discover how little many people know about the term "vape" and it does still carry that added connotation to some folks.

My points 1) Oxymoron--- so what. You've never encountered one before?
2) The ship has sailed, I do not know a single active vaper who doesn't at least RECOGNIZE the term "e-cigarette" they are synonyms.
3) There are benefits to describing a product as similar to cigarettes for older cigarette users
4) Too little, too late.
5) The war being waged against vaping/e-cigs isn't going to be won or lost by changing the forum name to "vaping."

Finally, Winston Churchill: However beautiful the strategy....
you should occasionally look at the results.
- Winston Churchill

You have strategized for the term "vaper" but your results are spotty at best. Really, move on and go help a vaping activism place more if you are so concerned.

I suppose some may consider it a personality flaw, but I've always been one to challenge the status quo. My first two years of schooling were interesting, in that it was recommended to my parents that my enrollment be withdrawn. My proclivity for challenging the Catholic doctrine was described as "disruptive" and "deliberate". I just wasn't trying to get attention... There were relevant issues that I felt needed to be addressed in an open forum. I recall one topic was in regards to jews being God's "chosen people". I argued that this was only partially correct (is that an oxymoron?), and that the Israelites were God's chosen people. I wasn't wrong, and I felt the other tribes deserved to be recognized. This ...... Sister Mary Ester off something fierce! Another incident happened when I voiced my opposition for kneeling in front of statues. Anyway, I'm not tryin to be difficult, I just felt it worthy of discussion.

It WAS worthy of discussion........ back in 2007........ when it was first discussed. The remaining 37 times it has been brought up was nothing more than an effort in repetitive futility.

oh, how cuuuute! Give yourself a pat on the back, champ!
"(Do not evade the forum censors)" is descriptive of someone who willfully makes an incorrect statement. The term "e-cigarette" is a poor nomenclature. You know this, yet you insist on referring to it as an e-cigarette. The device you refer to as an "e-cigarette" is a Nebulizer.

Alfonso the Wise said, " Had I been present at the creation, I would have given some useful hints for the better ordering of the universe."
Truman was fond of saying, "Any school boy's hindsight is more accurate than the wisest statesman."

It is so easy to find fault so long after the fact. It takes no courage, it takes no vision or wisdom.

Best check the definition of "nebulizer". No e-cigarette atomizer that I have ever seen incorporates Bernoulli's principle.

Interesting that you don't actually respond to points made, but just bring up silliness.
Definition of electronic cigarette
: a battery-operated device that is typically designed to resemble a traditional cigarette and is used to inhale a usually nicotine-containing vapor
Note: Electronic cigarettes contain a liquid solution typically consisting of nicotine, various chemical substances (such as propylene glycol or glycerol), and often flavoring. The solution is heated by the battery producing the aerosol or vapor inhaled by the user.
NEW! Time Traveler
First Known Use: 2003

nebulizer
[neb´u-līz″er]
a device for dispensing liquid in a fine spray; types used include jet and ultrasonic nebulizers. Called also atomizer.
small volume nebulizer a pneumatically powered device used to aerosolize medications for delivery to patients.
ultrasonic nebulizer an electronic device that generates ultrasound waves that break up water into an aerosol mist.
Venturi nebulizer a type of nebulizer used in aerosol therapy. The pressure drop of gas flowing through the venturi mask draws liquid from a capillary tube; as the liquid enters the gas stream it breaks up into a spray of small droplets.

Technically, an e-cigarette is a "specific" type of a nebulizer.

Much like one can define a "verb" but there are more than one of them and each has its own definition.

Look, you don't respond to valid points, you just go on to the next bout of silliness.

Instead of going on and on, not responding to things that are unarguable, and then post the "next" "Object of Willfulness" as I have decided to term your "definitions," well, I'm done.

So an e-cigarette's atomizer nebulizes? That doesn't make it a nebulizer ONLY, but a specific form of nebulization.

Next? Because this argument is unwinnable, it really isn't.

I could sit around and chuck synonyms at things forever because I didn't like "a word."

That doesn't make my synonym better, more accurate, or anything else. It just means I have too much time on my hands. That, or I want to argue.

Have fun, this is getting boring and way too easy. Just keep throwing those synonyms, because they are all SYNONYMS.

I might look up that word, and see if you can apply it to your argument. Or you should start your own vaping forum.

Actually, 'e-cigarette' IS a term. Simply put, it's a term you don't like and you don't approve of. Good or bad, it's a term and an actual 'thing'. So, it's not "poor nomenclature"....it's simply a word, or term, that you don't approve of. Personally, I don't like it....nor do I dislike it. It doesn't bother me in the least.
Regardless of how impressed you are with yourself to call anyone who uses the term e-cigarette a m@ron, odds are the name will stay.
I get it..."always one to challenge the status quo..." I did this, I did that.... cool story bro. You can call yourself a real modern day rebel. But, in actuality, it's just kind of obnoxious.
