Just got VV box mod its epic but the regulator (board) gets hot. Is it normal?

Hi there, I just received vv box mod (no led) and so far its epic! My first VV and I can see myself never going back to 3.7 . Anyway after few (like 10 tokes) the unit gets a little hot, i took the battery cover off and the chip/board/regulator is hot. Is it normal or is it something I should be concerned about ? Any tips ?

I got a vv box mod two months ago, I am now using a provari . Because of this, the board gets so hot that it was melting all the wires and glue. After 10 min of vaping it would get too hot to use, then it stopped working, toggled the switch then it worked. Also the pot stopped adjusting the volt and stayed on 5.8v till I took out the batts. Now there is a 50/50 chance that it works. I spent a long time going over everything and couldn't figure it out. It is somewhat normal for it to get warm, but mine stopped working, every connection is soldered well. I even rebuilt it to see if that was the problem and it still does the same. This is only my experience and opinion. Yours may work forever and never have problems. Good luck, I gave up. I love madvapes gold rush acrylic tube mod, it is still going strong after 1.5 yrs. I switch between 6v and 3.7v

Yes the NCP 630A 3 amp adjustable regulator gets warm they call these hand warmers .
I had bought the vv kit and put it together myself, although mine gets nice and warm its been working very well.

I go to the mod threads and learned a little here and there after putting the madvapes vv box mod together now putting another vv box mod together with a step down regulator thats suppose to run much cooler along with a volt meter this time around.

The voltage regulator gets hot when you run the VV Box Mod at lower voltages. The regulator takes the excess voltage (7.4v minus your current setting) and converts it into heat. If you turn it up to 4 volts or higher you should be ok. No matter what, it will generate some heat unless you have it set on the max setting.

I recently put together the vv box mod kit but can only get between 0 and 3 volts. Are you guys using Li ion batts? Or regular AA's? I can't even get mine to fire a 3 ohm atty I use with my LT. I am reading a max voltage of 3 volts at the 510 connector. I am just wondering if I may have blown my regulator or if I am making another mistake such as using the wrong batts. All soldered connections are good which tells me either wrong batts or blown regulator. Any insight is appreciated. BTW, I am using 2 regular AA's for power at the moment.

You need Li-ion or 4 NiMH, alkaline batts can't push the amps needed for this kind of thing.

EDIT: 4 NiMH will give you 4.8 volt at the top 5 or 6 would give you more but would get kinda bulky.

Depending on how it's glued in, you could try adding a heat sink.

Like mentioned above, up the voltage....try a 3.0/3.1 ohm atty/carto and 5 volts.

P.S.
@rems ...those batteries are 1.2 to 1.5 volts each (depending on type). I'd guess 1.5v if you're even getting 3v. They are probably not rated for the necessary amps! I wouldn't use them. The 4 NiMH's will work as mentioned above. Search for "the puck". Also, MV sells a 4.8 volt NiMH battery with special charger.

Two protected 3.6 volt Li-Ions are the way to go (also sold by MV along with chargers).

2 aa's only give you a max of 3.0v, 1.5v x2. Thats why your not getting any power. More importantly, its dangerous to use aa batteries. They are not rated for the kind of draw our devices are asking of them.

You need 14500 lithium ion 3.7v batteries for this kit. Here,

Buy 4 of them and mark them with a sharpie 1,2,3,4. Use 1 and 2 as a set and 3 and 4 as a set. Rotate their positions with each charge. So on first use 1 will be on the left and #2 will be on the right. After recharging #2 will be on the left and #1 will be on the right.

Dont run the batteries till their dead, this shortens their life. I charge a set every day regardless of how much charge is left in them. With lithium ion, its better to charge early than charge late.
