I did a kerosine lamp test and a 100%vg wicking race comparing ramie to hemp fiber. Ramie showed as good or slightly better capillary action. These are not real lab conditions so results are not exact (hard to get two wicks exactly the same out of fibers). In the height above the liquid level that it reached in an hour, the ramie raised VG the highest of any wick I have tested, and slightly faster to raise VG 1 inch above the liquid surface than hemp.. As I said in the hemp thread I would like to get some ramie degummed fiber to test as what I have is ramie top. Have not had any luck finding the degummed ramie fiber. In earlier hemp testing the degummed hemp fiber wicked better than the hemp top.

I'm also looking for degummed ramie fiber, but it appears so far, it's only available by the truck load

BJ Have you ever tried ramie in a genny.....personally though I totally recognize why people like kayfuns, I had one myself....There just no my cup of tea I much prefer gennys....I tired putting cotton in a genny once, and i have to say it was pretty good like a self feeding dripper I liked having the coil closer to the tip than a kayfun........I know it seems blasphemy to put cotton or ramie or hemp in a genny to most people especially us old genny guys, but it works pretty good.

I quit gennies when I started liking higher amps and realized SS added a very distinct taste that I did like after I tried organic wicks. They just could not keep up with my long double draws. I was also a closer to the tip enthusiast for a long time, but at these higher watts I like it further away, even have some longer tips to reduce the heat. My likes continually evolve to something better for me. That does not mean it is best for others. As I said before, at present the Taifun GT, dual 28g or 30g coils at .6 to .8 ohms with two ramie thru wicks and a ramie over wick, works best for me.:)

I'm liking extra long drip tips also. Picked up 3 Splash XlL tips and an Acrylic Bishop drip tip. Really enjoy the large Bishop Acrylic at home. Can do some power vaping with no drip tip heating. Heck, the whole rba and tube mod can be totally warm to hot from heavy usage, and the Bishop stays cool as a cucumber. lol

Liking the long hour glass shape, Splash tips too, come in some catchy colors. Comfortable drip tip.

Yeah i ususally shoot for .8, but my vaping style is changing as I have come to a very late realization I have built up an allergy to P.G. Thus my interest in ramie...

I have never used PG unless there was some in the flavors I use...:)

6 years ago when I looked up VG and PG one was used in medicine and baking and the other was used for pet safe radiator fluid. Needless to say I went with VG and have used it exclusively.:D

I got my Ramie in the mail yesterday, woop woooo. I boiled up a bit but couldn't wait for it to dry. So I went ahead and wrapped a vertical coil in my KFL. It is really easy to do while this stuff is wet and it dried quickly when I did a dry burn. After vaping it for a few hours I must say, I'm impressed. This stuff is pretty much neutral as far as flavor and seems to wick just as well as hemp fiber. Now, I hope it will last for a week without a need to change it. That may be a little much to ask, but I can hope. Thanks for the thread Dice, good stuff.

can you post a photo of your vertical build with Ramie on your KFL? Cheers

Loving Ramie now, but took me some time to figure it all out. But now am at a happy Vape Place!! lol.

I just ordered some Ramie from a canadian company as I am in canada (I messaged you on calivapor by the way, did not hear back but sorted myself out). I also have a Rose v2 about to land any day now, so will be trying the two out together. Thanks for the inspiriation. I was curious if there are any good vertical builds for the Rose, and if it would be possible with Ramie? I'v been doing a double vertical on my kayfun and it's a flavour beast

Curious about the double vertical on the kayfun, as there's only one air hole how do the 2 coil interiors get air inflow?

Love the snake eyes build on the Russian, tis pretty much what sits in mine.

Nicely done dogcat.!! Have a couple Savannahs that you'd swear were part dog, lol.

Far as air goes, well, think about it, you have all that ramie wrapped around the duals, I even start off with it going between, you screw the containment ring on and tuck the ramie tails into the juice tracks, where else is the air going to go but with equal pressure, out the 2 chimney stacks? Humm? Basically, when wrapped properly, one has created an air chamber beneath the two exhausts and the air intake. Wick has closed up the side and filled the chamber, The air is going to seek the path of least resistance, straight up the chimney she goes.

I use an inverted V arrangement, and seems to be smoother than the Double barrel arrangement. Think I've had the same build in the Russian now for 6 months or better. Got some new wire in, so it's in line for a rebuild, even though she don't need it.

I think like Dice's post explains, the air has no where else to go. In this case I used 18 gauge needles to wrap 30 gauge wire 13 times, so the coils themselves are pretty slim, and still fit over the hole partially. I posted a few more photos here

Thanks Dice57, I'm a cat lover myself. Have you used an inverted V in the rose as well?

OK, thanks. I'm trying to get a vertical build on my kayfun going with ramie, not so easy. Will soon find out how it vapes. You are getting mentioned over on this thread. I've only read one page so far

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ck-better-flow-flavor-saturation-nic-hit.html

I had a hard time using just ramie for the kayfun double barrel vertical build. The fiber is too stiff to get a good wrap around on my first try. I was though able to get an inner layer of ramie, wrapped with an outer layer of cotton, and then more cotton around the coil once I put the chimney tube on. The wick was a combo of both ramie and cotton. Awesome flavour so far
