I've been following the IPV Mini thread since I ordered mine a week ago, today it came. I can't post on that thread because I'm a new member, and I'd like to try and get some insight as to what's going on with my device. First, about me: My name is Brendan, and I've been vaping since the dark ages (5+ years ago). I've had tons of devices, built my own mods (SX350 Box mod, unregulated boxes, etc, etc), and worked in the industry (At a vape shop in my state). I'm familiar with everything from old school Joyetech 510 stick batteries with cartos, to high end devices Zeros, Geps, Waps, etc, etc, and everything in between. I am also a US Army veteran, married, and have a one year old daughter. Enough about me, on to the device.
I got my IPV Mini from Elev8, in black. It arrived today, and this is my impression after using it for the past 3 hours. The device feel solid, and nice in hand. My 510 connection is crooked, it's not bad, but its there. The buttons are clicky, but not loud. My fire button has gotten stuck a few times already, hopefully it's something that will go away as it gets broken in. The first thing I did was put a fresh 35A Efest in it and turned it on, came on no problem. I went through the functions to make sure everything was as it should be. PWM, DC-DC, and the mobile function all are there as they should be, as are the preset power profiles. I built my Lemo to 1.1 Ohm with 26g Kanthal and wicked with Japanese cotton. I set it to 20W and fired away. It produced a non-hot, mild vape. I bumped it to 25W, and it was a little warmer, but not by much, at this point I figured something was up. I bumped it to 30W and fired it, only slightly more vapor and a little warmer. I took the Lemo off, threw it on my SX350 Box, set it to 20W, and fired. A nice, smooth, warm vape, as it should it be. I set it 25W, and its a hot and robust vape. At this point I know it's the mini. I took out the Efest and put it a VTC4, threw the Lemo back on the Mini, and the same thing. A very mild vape, even at 30W. I also switched it back and forth between DC-DC and PWM, still the same issue, both extremely underpowered even at 30W. I took the Lemo off and put a Orchid V4, built to .5 Ohms on it, which did the same thing. Even at .5 Ohms at 30W, still a very weak vape, in both modes. I then powered the device down, took the VTC4 out, put the Efest back in it, and put the Lemo back on it. This time, I set it to 22W, and suddenly it's producing as it should, very close to the way it produced on my SX350. I turned it up to 25W, same thing, got noticeably hotter, as it should. At this point I figured maybe it was an out of the box kink that just needed to break in for a little or something. After this for the next 30 minutes it worked without a problem. I got up to walk to the end of my block to grab some food, vaping as I walked without issue. I went into the restaurant, ordered, sat down, got my food to go after 10 minutes, and left. I had the mini in my pocket the whole time, gripping it in my hand (front hoody pocket). After I left the restaurant, I vaped it, and out of nowhere, it's back to the crazy soft hit again. I didn't press any buttons, drop it (it never left my hand), or anything that. It just randomly seemed to go underpowered for no reason. After I got home, changed batteries, powered it on an off again, but the same thing, crazy soft hits at high wattage. This is where I stand now. Has anyone else had or heard of an issue like this? If you have have you heard for a fix for it of any kind? Thanks, and sorry for the long post, just want to make sure every detail of my issue is clear from the start. Thanks ECF, and Happy New Year as well!
