Welcome to ECF!

You can do it!

It may take awhile to find the right flavors. That seems to be the hardest part.

Don't give up. Don't beat yourself up if you feel the need to smoke a stinky once in awhile. Try to vape through your cravings. You may need to vape higher nicotine at first.

Feel free to ask any questions here, or in the other forums. People here are more than willing to help.

I tried to quit years ago and failed miserably with a cigalike. I purchased an eleaf 80w this afternoon. Just finished finishing my pack of camels. Purchased to flavors of 6mg. Suggestions... advice... some cheerleading maybe??? Haha
Some people stop smoking the moment they start vaping but it wasn't that way for me. When I started vaping I told myself I'll smoke when I want to but vape and vape and vape some more. I was a dual user for 6 weeks. My daily cigs declined immediately from 25 to five and stayed there with no effort. I used the 6 weeks too learn the vaping thing. Then when I tried for zero cigs it was low stress because there were only 5 cigs to get rid of and I knew a relapse would only be back to 5 cigs, not 25. Vaping will defeat smoking if you let it. A brother of mine was a dual user for 10 months.

Depending on the topper and how you vape it, 6mg may be too low to be effective in curbing your cravings for a cigarette. I would urge you to have some stronger stuff on hand in case you need it.

I never "quit" in the sense that I forbid myself from having a cigarette if I really wanted one. I just stopped smoking less than a week after I started vaping. I still have a couple of unopened packs from the last carton I bought almost 3-1/2 years ago.

it might be a good idea to get another mod as a backup in case yours packs up ,goes flat whilst out or coil packs up and your tempted to reach for the cigs ,or just to swap between flavours,or DL and MTL ,i have 4 mods now and a aspire cf sub battery ...never get bored and never have worries about being stuck at work with a non-working mod ...i still smoke but gone down from 40 a day to around 10-15 a day saving myself about £70/week ..so in the last month i have paid for all my mods/batteries and tanks,a ton of juice and plenty of diy kit ,got enough gear to last probably until xmas ..good luck ,hope you keep up with it ..

Don't give up, keep trying different wattage, different tanks, different flavors, different nicotine levels and, get to your happy vape place.

Like some other, when I took up vaping 7 years ago, I didn't intentionally quit smoking. I vaped because I could vape where I could not smoke. Even today, I suspect that if all of my vape gear dies at the same moment, I'd have a pack of cigs and a lighter in hand withing the hour but, I wouldn't like the flavor or smell of them one bit.

I don't smoke because I like vaping better. Vape smells, tastes and, leaves me feeling better than smoking did. I know what's in my vape, unlike those stink sticks I used to smoke. I like that, and, I love the variety of flavors I can vape.

Nicotine and caffeine - gotta have both. Yes I'm addicted to both and, have no desire to quit using either one.

My advice is to appreciate every single cigarette you do not smoke and view each one as a victory, rather than seeing each cigarette you may still smoke as a defeat. You just keep moving and going as quickly or slowly as you can.

I personally found it helpful to have options for different times of day or different circumstances. I tend to use something a lot less rowdy before bed than, say, at 2PM. I normally build and make everything I can yet I STILL use the NJOY Dailies from the blue box when I (rarely) go to a bar. Being spoiled for choice versus just.... having a cigarette.... was a huge deal for me, and still is.

It honestly took me a really long time to get to vaping ONLY, but it was almost magical how quickly it allowed me to reduce my analogue intake SEVERELY. Also, I started really early on so lack of options was definitely part of it. Others, both when I started vaping but especially more recently, are able to make the full transition much sooner. Everyone is different, which is why my #1 piece of advice-- again-- is to simply focus on each time you stop yourself from smoking rather than the few times you may not.

That said, devices have gotten much better and of course, the beauty of vaping is that it fulfills both the nicotine cravings and the oral and/or manual fixations that are caused or intensified by years of smoking. Plenty of people really do find the switch is practically easy with more modern equipment. I am certainly not trying to set you up for failure and I hope that you just had your last cigarette ever. But if you slip a little, just keep going. Literally each cigarette you do not smoke is one step closer to the ultimate goal.

Hi RoseyPosey. Welcome to the ECF.

Here are some things that helped me when I Switched.

    Drinking a Lot of Water
    Getting more Exercise
Chewing Gum and sucking on Hard Candy
    Staying Busy while at Home
Working more in the Yard or just getting more Sun
Having some Higher Nicotine than normal e-Liquid in a 2nd Tank for when the Bad Cravings hit

And the Biggest... Just worry about Today. Tomorrow Doesn't Matter. It's just One Day at a time. All You just have to get to Midnight Tonight without Smoking.

You Can Make It. And it Will become easier as you get some Time under your belt. But the First couple of Days can be Rough. And sometimes you just have to Grit Your Teeth, Smile at the Pain, and say out loud...

"NO! I'm Not Going to Smoke a Cigarette Today."

This is as long a post I have made here, and do note it is all IMVHE.

Good old 'powers that be' pushed me with the (upcoming then)TPD laws and I took a leap of faith.
I had tried vaping years ago, and whilst it worked the devices i had were intermittent (to say the least) and I fell back to smoking.
This time I walked into local vape shop and luckily the owner was a decent chap. He sold me a pretty good set-up at good price... and it just flat out worked. I dumped the ciggies there and then.
Must admit that in some ways it was easy, I didn't miss the ciggies at all, but i did feel the effects of their demise.
Firstly my chest immediately felt great and just kept getting better, I could run with the dog!
Then I started getting short tempered and losing my 'rag' at the silliest of things.
Then I got chronically sleepy for a couple of weeks.

For sleepiness I just slept as much as I could.(12-14 hours a day)
For the grumpiness I trolled random people on the net (not in places I have respect for though!)

About week 4 now and the sleepiness seems to have lifted this last two days, been at the decorating since 6AM today.
The grumpiness has eased too (much to the peace of the net! :p).

    One thing I have noticed...
I can go without vaping for hours(6hrs) without any problem, even after meals...
...but... and it is very interesting to me, I can take my mind to a place of ciggies(especially after meals) imagine myself rolling a ciggie, sitting back and smoking it. This will trigger a craving that wasn't there before, and I can push the feeling away, laugh at it being illogical and insubstantial... and away the craving goes.

Anyhoo, the upshot is the more weight you give the craving the more power over you it has.
A good vape will always satiate the nic craving, anything more is you yourself putting you in the smoking picture.
Accept we are essentially an illogical animal at heart, accept we have illogical drives. Recognise the craving as such illogic, laugh at it and yourself, and away it will go.

    As I said IMVHE.
Good luck with it, stick to your guns and you will soon be in clear skies and calm waters... all with better health and well being.

    An 80w device sounds promising.

cig-a-likes are not very good. At least by 2016 they weren't lying about the 'equivalent to' x amount of cigarettes, unlike when some of us started. One of the biggest consumer cons of the 21st century... and they got away with it.

I get a little scared when folk say "I've got 80w" because even 10w-20w ought to be enough in all honesty, but let's not go there.

    Good luck. :)

I started vaping about a year ago with a Kanger top tank mini, a friend suggested I use 18 mg nicotine since I smoked about a pack a day. I didn't get and taste or flavor but the 18 mg seemed to eliminate the need for tobacco.
I bought an Eleaf pico with the melo tank and could finally
get some flavor which helped a lot
I'm down to 3 mg now and haven't touched tobacco in ages. Wish you luck.

Hi and welcome! How much do you usually smoke, and what tank did you get with the Eleaf?

I usually smoke 1-2 packs per day. Depending on the day. I got a supermini tank to go with it. I'm not really well versed in all the products; however, the staff was super duper friendly. 5 hours and no smoking :)

Wattage and vaping styles are very individual. non sub ohm or any below 40 watts are just not warm enough for me. 40-100 depending on the juice is good for me.

That wasn't an option when I started vaping 7 years ago, I did get off cigarettes then, never looked back but, until I found sub ohm, vaping was a make do, it passed, but barely. Cigarettes were still better for pleasure, vaping was just to get nicotine, a tool, not a pleasure beyond the fun of DIY juice.

Now it's pleasure, I want to vape for the enjoyment of the vapor itself.

Would I smoke if I could not vape? Yes, no doubt about that. I have no intention of quitting nicotine and, I detest snus, snuff, chewing, so, it's vape or smoke for me.

I realize everyone is different, but my experience, both in terms of mood and alertness was quite the opposite. In fact, what you're describing sounds a bit like the effects of nicotine withdrawal and makes me wonder if perhaps you might have been able to avoid that with stronger juice?

I was up there at 24mg(at 15mg now).
Even discovered that nic can raise your altitude considerably!

Did a google, irritability and tiredness are common for smoking cessation, even when vaping.
