I'm talking about that little pain in the ... rubber grommet type thing on the pos post. There has to be a better way. Any info would be great. Thanks.

I have been using shrink tubing, sometimes two layers then i fill the cavity with epoxy so it won't move or leak.
If it was me i would just solder a new 510 connector in the mod. I don't take mine apart to solder them if you took yours apart to solder it and can't get it back together you have to go in at a angle get one side started and then turn the center post while putting a bit of pressure on it while decreasing the angle. Some folks swear that soldering them in one piece will lead to a early death but i completely disagree i soldered the one in my PT in one piece a year and a half ago and it is still going strong. I use my PT religiously every day sitting here at my computer.
See, now there you go, I love the diverse opinions and methods on this forum...I always take mine apart to solder, mind you, I've built entire mods using nothing but a mini torch...but ya, getting the insulator back in is a bit of a PITA at first but you get good at it, I use a jewellers screw driver, kind of tip it and get one edge started then use the tip of the screw driver to basically fold it into the hole then re-round it once in...I don't give it a 2nd thought any more but I used to just dread that part...
I've never had an issue with the center post not going back in.. My issues are, after I do get it back in, the grommet is loose or something because the center post just wants to sink all the way to the bottom. I HATE that. And then when you screw in a new carto or atty, you literally have to screw it all the way down for it to be semi-stable. I much prefer soldering them in once piece. That seems to have helped mine. But, look for the ones that have a small indentation on the underside of the + post. That will give you something to fill with solder and makes it WORLDS easier. Or you could use one that has a small center hole to fold the wire over and stick it down inside, then solder the bottom shut.
Another thing I do to help is once everything is soldered, I fill the inside of the connector with hot glue. I also strongly suggest sanding or using a file to remove the finish where your solder points will be. This helps as well.

Doh!, I get my 1.8 306's from AV and totally missed those...thanks Lynch.
If you have dead cartos around just take one apart. The center gasket is the same as used in the battery connector and makes A free replacement part. Done it a few times.
I've been savaging them from brand new cartos (those and the tubes are about all carto's are good for IMO 
)...thing is, the quality of some of them is pretty poor sometimes...plus the solder blob on the end of the center posts tends to damage them in the removal process.

Made that mistake. Now I clean all excess soldier from the tip of my iron, dip it in flux, and touch it to the center pin. The excess blob is drawn to the iron and makes removal of the pin easy without damaging the gasket.
