It is difficult to diagnose the problem without having it in my hands and I don't know to what extent one can disassemble the k1000 since I don't have one (have been considering picking one up though). It might be worth trying to take it apart further try to see if you can find any loose wires/connections and then attempt to re-solder them if found.

Hopefully it is a simple fix and someone that has experienced/solved a similar issue will post something.
