Memorial Day weekend kicks off the Summer here in Michigan. It is 36 this morning Mother Nature needs to do some catching up with the times and get us some warmer temps for next weekend's activities.

Memorial Day makes me think of my father, who was in Korea, and my uncle, who died on the Bataan Death March. I never knew my uncle, but being born only a few years after that, I remember the grief my family was still feeling , and how much they talked about it when I was a child.

Besides my uncle, we had two close friends who were also on the death march. The last friend died one year ago.

5/17 #1 - my grandfather served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Luckily, he's still with us and still glad to tell us story after fascinating story. There aren't many WWII vets left, so let's treasure them!

Thankful for the vets who served in Vietnam, and also that the war ended just before my dad (Marine Corps) was scheduled to go there.
