Hello,

I'm fairly new to vaping still trying to figure out what works best for me so like most I've went through a couple of different setups. Initially I started with the most basic Kanger EVOD starter kit (650mah at 3.7v with EVOD tank using 1.8ohm single coil) - still use it every once in a while charging my battery and still works decent. Since then I have gotten an EVOD VV 1000mah battery and a new EVOD tank with 2.2 ohm single coils (old base had 2 holes, new one has 3) and also recently purchased a mini Protank 3 and a Mini Aerotank both came with 2 x 2.0 ohm dual coils. One kit came with the new style coils and the other with the old style. I have read so many great reviews about both of those so I didn't think twice before ordering them.

Now that I have all 3 tanks, I find it that I absolutely hate both new tanks (I tried both with the old and new coil design). They both seem very harsh, much less vapor than the EVOD (at higher voltage) and taste is nowhere near as good as the basic EVOD (and it's not even an original KangerTech but rather some TECC EVOD generic tank they sell at the local ecig shop down the street for $8.99 even though on the box it did say KangerTech product but also had the TECC logo next to the KangerTech one so not sure if they licensed it or reselling it or what the deal is but it works good except for leaking a little bit so I need to clean it but nothing to cry about really - seems like that's fairly common).

So I don't get it - the old EVOD with it's single coil works way better (for me) than the new dial coil tanks - gives me much smoother and more flavorful vape and uses MUCH less battery (makes sense). I was thinking of trying the newer EVOD 2 or EVOD glass (since I already did damage one of my first EVOD tanks by mixing spearmint with my juices not knowing certain juices such as spearmint can damage plastic tanks; I have since stopped using that juice and haven't had any problems) but wondering if I will be disappointed since both of these tanks seem to be using the new dual coil design.

The next thing I have been thinking of trying out is the Aspire Nautilus Mini tank with a Vision Spinner II battery but need to give it a month or so before that so my wife doesn't end up sticking all my new gadgets where the sun don't shine (since they were supposed to save us money compared to smoking regular cigarettes ;)

Just curious about your opinions. I seem to like what most people seem to consider "bleh" and hate what so many rave about. What am I missing here?

Thank you
:vapor:

A friend of mine has the big Nautilus and from what I understand it's the same coil and everything just smaller tank on the mini and I really liked how his worked on a Vision Spinner battery - better than any of my Kanger stuff but he spent $120 for his kit, I got my battery for $22 and the tanks for $30-40 altogether. Probably gonna get the tank first and use it with my current battery and get the spinner down the road once I get some more use of this battery (still runs out at night and hate having to use the 3.7v EVOD while it's charging).

Most of the aero/protank love is for the protank 2, which had a single coil, or from people rebuilding their own single coils in the dual coil heads. I have heard from many people that the dual coils are disappointing in comparison, but I've still heard enough hate for the nautilus that I wouldn't touch one.

I love my evods. I also like the PT2, not thrilled with the mini PT 3. I think it has to do with the single coil. The dual coil is a warmer vape, soaks up tons more juice and sucks a battery much quicker than the single coils. I thought I read somewhere that the PT 3 and aerotank could handle the single coils (like in your evod) but that the PT 2 could not take the dual coils. I'm not sure about that, I've never tried it, but I'm sure someone here knows.

I have the exact same thing. Tried out so many clearos, setups etc and always seem to prefer my good old evod.
I dont really care other people seem to consider it bleh, since its just what I personally like best.
I will however certainly try out the new nautilus mini. If that wont work I'll just continue to enjoy the evod.;)

technically, a dual coil, on a regulated setup (read as VW) uses the gets the same amps as a single coil so, obviously, the dual coil heats up much less and slower than a single coil. However, since it has twice the surface area of a single coil, one thing will cancel out the other and the end result is that you will have the same amount of vapor, albeit cooler than with a single coil. The only advantage I see for the end consumer is that a dual coil setup should last longer as you're not pumping so much current through each coil individually. The main disadvantage would be a cooler draw (but many like that) and a slower fire up time (that part, I don't like) and thus you will be pressing the power button longer resulting in shorter battery life than with a single coil.

Now on a unregulated setup (read as mechanical mod or a simple unregulated battery), the dual coil should produce more vapor than a single coil but at the expense of even more battery and e-juice usage... the lifespan of the two coils should be reduced almost at par of the single coil...

Now the truth is that I'm still trying to figure out why some people praise so much the dual coil design vs the single coil and just minutes ago I posted on another thread a similar observation and question... whats the real difference? I have in front of me two rebuild heads... both at 1.5 Ohms but one is a single coil and the other is a dual coil (made from 2 x 3 Ohm coils)... I notice no difference in flavor or vapor... The only thing I notice is that the single coil burns hotter and fires up much faster than the dual coil setup.

Regards
Tony

I don't hate them. I just couldn't figure out why so much hype about them. As I was told though, on hi wattage devices, they are superior in vapor production. Only problem is that most of us have low power devices so for a beginner, using a VV battery at 6-10W won't probably notice a thing between both setups.

less battery as well as less using up of eliquid. My batts drain faster with these newer tanks, and they gobble up eliquid like a vacuum cleaner.

Clearos are clearos, to a certain extent. My beef is that I'm not going to pay $30+ for a clearomizer, when some mods and batteries cost that much. The parts wear out, seals too, I can't spend that kind of money on clearos.

I mostly use the original Evods, bought a couple Evod Glass earlier this week because I wanted to try some mint flavors. I wasn't impressed. I did like the the cooler vapor, and the slightly looser draw. However, I could barely get any flavor, including some juices that have great flavor in my original Evods. The Glass were also going through liquid and battery charge at least twice as fast as the originals. Now that Aspire is coming out with BVC heads for their other clearos I might try the ET-S or Vivi Nova-S for a cheap glass clearo. I don't like bare glass tanks, and I'm not interested in spending $40 for a Nautilus Mini and metal sleeved tank.

Be careful of the ET-S unless you like metal drip tips. The ET-S is a fully self-contained unit so you can't swap the tip out (like the evod) but the tip is metal. I'd go with the Vivi or mini vivi if that is an issue for you.

Thank you for this post. My set up is a couple of Ego-T 650 mah batteries and two EVOD tanks. I started with the top coil CE-4's but quickly switched and I am very happy with the EVOD. But from shopping around and reading reviews I've often thought that I was missing out on something by not having a fancy dual coil tank or mod. Luckily, I'm a pretty frugal guy and haven't spent any of my hard earned money on a big upgrade. I'm now thinking that if this is working why switch? I'm stocked up on juice and coils and won't have to spend any money for a few weeks if I don't want to.

When these batteries finally die out I'll probably just upgrade a bit with a VV battery but I still think these EVODs are great little tanks. Does anyone know how long a basic 650 mah Ego battery will last? I've had mine over a month now.

So.... A few months late on this but, I have the EXACT same situation as the OP with the wife not liking me spending too much on gadgets. So I also have mostly 10$ or so tanks for my 2 batteries. Anyway I also much prefer the evods to my mini pt3 for other reasons as well as the ones you mentioned. One is the way my juices always darken in my pt3 and this new genitank I bought a couple weeks back. and the darker it gets, the harsher it tastes. Both glass tanks, both dual coil. Im guessing it's the coil given that so many others are less than impressed by them so far.

Think I will just keep pinching pennies rewicking my evod heads. next purchase will be a tester so I can just recoil them too. I have loved evods since I started doing the wicks with cotton. Silica just didn't wick fast enough and doesn't taste nearly as good to me.
