If you are drawing very hard or you have the wattage/voltage turned up then yes, it's going to get very hot.

The protank mini 3 would get hot since it has less area to conduct/spread out the heat. But the head of the vamo should NOT get so hot that it's uncomfortable to touch. Warm, yes, but not hot to the point that it gets uncomfortable to touch.
But then,
1) what is the resistance of your topper?
2) what's the voltage or wattage you set the vamo to
3) how long will you press the fire button and the intervals between firing.

i had it right up to 6 volts to get any sort of throat hit when im pressing the fire button 5-10 seconds depending ive just swapped over to a kanger glass evod and it goes fine plenty vape at 3.5volts ..Its weird :/

I have a Protank 3 mini and I put an adjustable airflow on it. Works great for me anyway. It does get hot if I use it a bit, but so do all my small tanks. I normally have two setups (each with a different flavor). It allows the other one to cool down a bit.
Sorry. Topper means the atty which in your case is the protank mini 3.
Ok. I've NEVER tried 6 volts on the vamo with a pt mini on it. But what I can say is that even with a 1.8 ohm coil, firing at 4volts for about 4 seconds and immediately firing again for another 4 seconds, the pt mini gets HOT. BUT the vamo only fellas warm. But that's on a vamo v2. Don't face have a v5 to help you out.

You cannot sensibly run a mini Protank at 5-6 volts even for a few puffs.
To be totally honest, in the 2 years I've owned a Vamo V5 I've not even attempted to use a mini Kanger tank on it. No point really. They are close to burn-out at even 8-9 watts.
I'd recommend looking into a better tank...

I have a Vamo V5 and use Kanger Mini protank 2's and 3's on it and I never go above 4.1 v. on it. I can't imagine vaping at 5 or 6 volts on any of the protanks. They aren't designed for it. I chain vape and my tanks never get hot.
I love my Mini Protank 3, 1.5 ohm atomizer run at 7.5 watts on an MVP2 and it is perfect for me. Before switching to watts I ran it at 3.7 volts, it gave a vice warm vape.
The protank mini 3 is where I started. Loved it. if you are using that much voltage, its time to move on to a different tank, like a subtank mini.
What's the coil resistance (ohms) on your tank? On the Vamo V2, you can check this by holding down the +/up button for a bit. I imagine it's the same or similar on the Vamo V5.
Thanks for all the reply's im using a 1.5 coil and this seems to be the problem i was sure u could use them but im ordering from amazon today i put it on and it cut the vamo of ..So its either the coild thepart you screw in with coil on seems larger ..Its like its about a mil bigger than the kanger glass ...Im either using the wrong coils or the pro 3 mini is wrong ..Im sticking with the kanger glass evod.
Ive always liked them and feel good puffing with them.And i no some juices need more heat and with the evod i can do that perfect some juices i sit at about 3.4volts some i go up to 4.5 volts etc .I no there is fake kanger items going about could it be that ? ..From now on im ordering all products from where i get my juice as before i ordered the wrong coils and they rectified it for me before posting so im deffo staying of amazon :/

i have amazon prime/free shipping but i probably wouldn't order anything on there beyond kanthal/cotton.
also, i'm surprised you weren't experiencing wicking issues at that voltage. if you're looking for more hit/flavour/vape you might think about upgrading to an RTA.
