I have an evod and was looking at buying a new coil 5pack and started noticing these (new?) socc coils as opposed to what I was buying which I guess is silica? Any difference between the two? Besides the price lol. I don't rewick or anything. Once the coil is tasting like crap I toss it and get a new one. So for that purpose, should I go with these socc coils or stick with the ones I currently use?

The s in socc stands for single...single organic cotton coil. I'd go with the cotton.

I tried them, awful. They aren't made right. It appears that instead of wrapping a coil on a form and then threading it with cotton, they just wrap it on cotton like most silica coils are wound. It squeezes the cotton very tight -- I don't think you could remove it without damaging the coil even before using it, and after gunk starts gluing it together forget about it. Most of them don't even have the coil aligned with the wick holes either, the cotton makes a couple of bends to get through the wick holes. There's so much cotton stuffed through that little coil they don't even need a flavor wick or other filler for the wick holes.

The proper way to cotton wick a BCC is so loose you have to be careful cutting the cotton to length after installing it, one slip and the wick pulls through. I did it first rewicking the coils, later I was doing it to brand new ones because with some juices I can't be satisfied with the silica anymore. Currently rebuilding them using pre-welded coil assemblies from Fasttech (the 34 gauge 2.4 ohm) and Japanese cotton.

You completely lost me lol except the first sentence that said you think they are awful.

I wouldn't imagine that a coil would last any longer or shorter depending on the tank, but who knows lol. 3 weeks is a good amount of time I can live with. Do you feel cotton is more temperamental than the silica, like do they burn easier or about the same? I ask cuz of what you said about not letting the tank get too low
Cotton can burn out easier and like sneak up on you if you're not watching it if that makes sense. When I used the other ones I could pretty much vape it until it was empty, on the cotton I always make sure it doesn't get lower than a mL or two. Maybe bc it's more absorbant. I also noticed when I used silica it would leak and gurgle a ton in comparison

@Infamshxr Silica is made from carbon fiber (fiberglass) it doesn't burn. what you're tasting in old gunked up e-juice burning. Silica wicks can be dry burned clean and come out tasting as good as new. Only thing is it's hard if not impossible to while the wick is covered up inside the atty casing.

If you're using the same resistance rating (ohm), same voltage/wattage and the same juices. I don't think there'll be much change in how fast they gunk up. I never liked the pre-made coils, there's just not enough QA from the manufacturers and a lot of duds slip through into the market.

That said, you may find that cotton gives you better taste. Don't forget to juice up the wick before installing in the tank section. and let it sit for a few minutes after filling to make sure it's saturated with juice. It might take 15 minutes if the cotton is tightly packed as mention earlier.

So o could potentially boil my silica coils and reuse them again like new? I've been vaping on this evod for almost 2 years and haven't really gotten a clear dud yet. I've gotten duda in the fact that they taste like crap quicker, but most tend to work great for 2 weeks at least. Had some go as long as 4 weeks. Just depends. I mostly vape nicquid and only really change between two or 3 flavors, all lighter colored. That could be why too.

Hmm... So less leakage, better flavor, but can burn a lot easier. I'm terrible at watching my tank level cuz of having the evod, makes it kinda hard to see sometimes. So I'll be vaping in the dark, then all of a sudden "bleh! REFILL!!" Lol
You'll know when you're cotton wick is about to go dry. You'll get a hit that's weak, hot and off taste. I've gone to that point many times when using the full SS sections on my KayFun because you can't see inside the tank. Drippers give the same cue when to refill them.

All of you, even the OP, should understand my second sentence: they're not built right. A big fat piece of cotton squeezes down to almost solid to go through the coil. The misalignment of the coil and the wick holes show a complete lack of quality control as well. It's like they went to the assembly line for the silica wicks BCCs -- not the same people as the other lines -- and said "you're using cotton now" and never really designed or tested it.

I tried the SOCCs first with joy, I'll happily pay another 20 cents a coil for less work and better quality. One or 2 did give really good flavor at first but didn't last well at all. My most important flavor, the one that doesn't work in other kinds of tanks, was like "what happened?" though. Upon taking one apart, I found out why. I was almost surprised they work as well as they do.

I started out on an evod 2 when I first got into vaping...I like cotton wick coils a lot better, better and smoother flavor. don't let your tank get too low bc it can burn out the coil fast if the cotton gets too dry. Idk how long it'll last in that particular tank but I vape the aspire Atlantis and my cotton coils have been lasting me 3 weeks

This is not the dual coil we are talking about. I'm skeptical of those now too, but could be different... I've run my regular cotton rewick EVODs down to empty many times and it doesn't really cause a problem. I get off taste and low vapor, turn it over and look at it and yep, empty. A newbie might keep vaping beyond that point though.

Here's my :2c: on the silica vs. cotton Kanger coils: I get slightly better flavor from the cotton, but the cotton is also more gurgly and leaks, and it doesn't seem to last nearly as long before getting gunked up. I prefer the silica overall.

For those looking for either type, there are plenty of places that sell them at good prices.

    Cotton - http://www.sun-vapers.com/buy/kanger-mt32-single-coils/
