I've got several T3 heads which I've reused a couple times (one for menthol, one for honey tobaccos, etc) but the flavor wicks have been, shall we say, less than sturdy. Two have disintegrated completely and I've lost a couple down the drain during the cleaning process.

This thread: In Praise of Ekowool seems to suggest that I can use this material as a substitute. Has anyone done this and can vouch for its success/failure? I know, the stupid things only a couple bucks apiece for the whole assembly, but I'm a rebuildey type guy. What say you?

Specifically, the options are Hollow, Silica Threaded, or Cotton Threaded...I don't know what those mean. It looks like 1mm might be the right thickness, but I'm not sure.

My carto broke on new years night when someone knocked it over, luckily my roommate had a spare Kanger T3s that she let me use until I could pick up a new one. It lasted 3 days before it started flooding and the atomizer started failing. I'm back to my carto tank today and I don't think I'll go back to the Kanger Ts. Maybe I just got a defective one though.

Yeah, the flavor wicks are very fragile. When exposing the flavor wicks to dry burn or what not, keep them wet. If you burn the flavor wicks to clean them, after they cool down for a couple seconds, lick the tip of your finger to wet the flavor wick. Twist the flavor wick gently on both ends in opposite direction like your wringing a towel( a tiny fragile towel). This helps keep the 1mm flavor wicks fibers interlocked. After a few cycles of use and dry burns the wicks will be toast though.

Besides eckowool, you can go to your local drug store and buy a bag of 100% organic cotton balls. I still boil the cotton because it is bleached using hydrogen peroxide and gives me a weird taste, but some don't notice it and don't boil before. Take a very small pinch of cotton and twist it to the shape of your flavor wick. You can also buy 1mm silica and make your own flavor wick. Lots of options. If you get flooding, juice is getting in around the wicks. Make sure there is no space under the chimney that sits on top of the flavor wicks. Hope this helps.:vapor:

I do use ekowool as the flavor wicks on the t3. Unlike silica, it stays in place and does not "disintegrate" that easily. Hollow core, 2mm or 1mm works for me. The cotton filled core would work too, but when torching it to clean and reuse the wicks, the cotton would probably get burnt. So it might be a use and discard item.

Although I use cotton as the main wick, I've never had much luck with it as flavor wicks. But others have used it with much success. So you might also want to try it out.
