Hello again.
Finally, my vaporizer arrived tuesday and I couldn't wait to unpack it and try it out. So I did, went to my local vape shop, bought two e-liquids and let the vape shop guy fill the e-juice, since I was unsure of how to do it. (He didn't fill it incorrectly, he correctly identified the vape as a top-fill and filled it almost to the top, just as it says in the instructions).
I went out and tried vaping, and the vape started to gurgle every time I took a hit. Since I did not know that this shouldn't happen, I didn't think much about it.
Until yesterday. I noticed that something hit my lips every time I pulled in air through the vape. Also, after five or so hits, I could taste something bad in my mouth.. So I started googling, and found out that the gurgling shouldn't happen. I also looked in the mouth piece and there was a lot of juice inside the tube. And pretty much everywhere (except the battery, of course, only in the tank).
I don't know how I managed to oveflow the coil, but apparently, I somehow did. What did I do wrong? Also, I would like to clean the whole tank, but I don't know how to clean the coil. Do I have to remove the cotton wool and replace it? Also, how do I stop this from happening?
Thanks in advance
Filip

Hi!

We're going to need some more information for this, please.

What coil is it? What power do you run it at? PG/VG ratio?

Gurgling can happen with subtanks. The infamous "Milkshake" vape is alive and well.

You sometimes need to wipe inside the drip tip well.
In a bad case, you can sometimes turn the tank upside down on a piece of tissue (drip tip out) and let all the excess juice drain down the chimney.

Cleaning the tank is good, and logical... I do it often.
Cleaning the coil is less 'good'... you can clean it and dry-burn and then re-wick.
You might even be able to soak the coil and dry it out. (almost pointless i.m.o.)
Replacing the cotton wool just because it's dirty is maybe less effective if the coil is gunked up.

First of all, thanks for answering!
It's a stainless steel coil, and I use it at approx. 30W. On the bottle it says 35% PG, 10% VG.
Also, what is a drip tip well? I only know the term "dripper", but I have an atomizer in my tank (correct me if I'm wrong).
As to cleaning the wool: Do I even need to exchange/clean it? E.g. when I'm switching flavors?

30w is good, enough to vapourize the liquid efficiently. (sometimes coils get too wet/soaked at low power)
35% PG 10% VG must be a mis-read. You can't have 45% liquid.... (sorry.. check that out)
The drip tip is the mouthpiece which should pull out of the top of the tank.
A drip tip and a dripper are not the same thing.

Cleaning cotton is not something which works (I'm guessing). Replacing (re-wicking) is very popular, but simply changing the cotton inside an old coil is unlikely to be useful.

I wouldn't change the cotton to swap flavours, not unless I was going from menthol to peach or tobacco to custard.

Does you tank have a name? Have you got a rebuildable (RBA) part in your kit?

*edit* in post title... :) It's a top tank (Kanger subtank)

Your PG% and VG% should equal 100%.

The drip tip well is where your drip tip is inserted. I take my drip tip off and blow throw it sharply. Stick a paper towel on the end to catch flying juice. Also, that "well" should be wiped out to get excess juice out of it. I often get juice in the chimney/well/drip tip if I lay the Top Box Mini (In your case) on its side, shake it, etc.

Yes, you have an atomizer in your tank. It is the coil or cartridge that has the coil in it.

I believe 99% of vapers use cotton, not wool. Yes, it has to be changed. It is full of the old juice. When I switch juices or get to ~30ml of the same juice, I disassemble and clean the whole thing. It does depend on the juice, too.

Often, people have multiple "toppers" so they can fill them with different liquids. I run about 6-7 and have many more. My taste buds just lose interest and so I switch toppers throughout the day. Different toppers have different characteristics and new ones come out all the time. Probably good to start considering if you want flavor, clouds or somewhere in between. Toppers go in those directions, so to be happy, look for toppers that support what you want the best.

By saying toppers, I mean RBA/RTA/RDA/Clearomizers... Just a term I hear for anything that is on the top of a mod.

Hope helps.

Your PG% and VG% should equal 100%.

I'm an idiot. I read "MAX 55%, PG 35%, VG 10%, water, flavouring" and didn't think much about it since I thought water and flavoring make up 60% of the juice, but of course it says "55% PG, 35% VG, 10% water". My bad.

Yes, I do have that, but I don't think I'm experienced enough to be fiddling with these things :)

I still have a Nickel coil and a Clapton coil in my starter kit, which I could use for other flavors then. I currently have two flavors, double apple and fruit smoothie, and I ordered menthol yesterday. I'm not sure if I should bother filling the stainless steel coil with menthol or if I should just use the Clapton coil for that. I wouldn't like to try the Nickel coil, since my mother has an allergy to Nickel and I don't think I've been tested for that.

Sucking too hard can cause gurgling. Draw slower.

I've read that on the internet, but I have the feeling that, if anything, I am pulling too lightly. Could that also be the case?

Okay, so I just fired up the vape for about one second, two seconds max, and the vape made a fairly loud "pop" and vapor shot out of the drip tip. Is that a sign that I somehow overfilled it?

Popping and liquid.. My favourite part! Lol. Your coil might be flooded, in which case you want to clean out excess liquid. With many coils, you can blow out excess liquid by putting the base of the coil in your mouth and blowing through it into paper towel. If it's still really flooded, fire it for a second without inhaling.

You also want to clean out the drip tip, as mentioned. I like to take mine off, clean out the well it sits in, and the center tube (twist paper towel so it is thin enough to be pushed down the center of the tank from top to bottom. You'll need to have your drip tip and coil removed for this). Repeat until paper towel comes out dry.

Often it is overfilling, especially with new users. You can fill to the top of the centre tank but be aware if the space you lose when you reassemble your tank. You don't want any liquid going down the centre post. Again, it could be from the tank being laid down as well, as mentioned above.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that you want higher VG liquids with your tank. Personally, I don't go below 75 VG.

Good luck! Hope you're liking your setup.
;)
